I don't have the technical ability to make logos.
But I would like to suggest/nominate Play Dough, as he
appears to be a master of it. :)

As far as ideas, I like a variety of symbols, covering all the aspects,
spiritual and laboratory.

I think it mentionable that AF, alchemy forums, is also Aqua Fortis,
a "strong water", a solvent... kind of like America is a "melting pot"
of all nationalities, so may AF be a community of many perspectives
on alchemy.

Okay ...just a proposition for the logo. Maybe a little old fasion.

The Phoenix comes from an old alchemical (or topic related) book (I don't remember the title).

I imagine some better things could and will be proposed.

I had an image of two alembics, arranged like a yin-yag...
A pheonix in each?

OR a lion in one, an eagle in the other and a pheonix above the image?

I felt inspired today and compelled to draw this up:
http://i878.photobucket.com/albums/ab341/gustijerina/Picture.jpg

The inverted triangles are indicative of a very familiar masonic symbol and also of the alchemical symbol for glass, as Deviadah gave us today. Within the outer triangles are the four elements, within that the three principles:, sulfur, salt, and mercury, and most importantly the spirit in the form of the hebrew letter Yod as a symbol for the universal spirit which I beleive is appropriate in that it is the point of origin, around which i drew a square, because whenever I see a circle inside a square it makes me have dejavus, and I believe these shapes to be interconnected with time on some level, and the circle triples as part of the symbol of mercury and of salt. The two triangles also represent in part our discussion of the noosphere and the 3,6,9 discussion and how those numbers reoccur in alchemy , physics and mathematics. Also within the triangle 33 degrees signifing the 33 degress of masonic initiation and the 32 paths of mystical wisdom of the Kabbalah, the 33rd being the crowning achievement of sublime intelligence. Rounding it all out the symbols of the planets and double as metals and cosmic forces. Maybe we can surround this with a phoenix a red lion an eagle and a crow or maybe a dragon?

The image here is obviously only appropriate as a banner for the forum, if the background thereof is black as in the image itself. But background colors (of either the image or the forum) can easily be changed so if you want me to try making the same one with a white background please don't hesitate to let me know.

Just right-click and save the JPG. If you want it larger or smaller, don't hesitate to let me know. Also, if you'd like a frame or something around it, that can easily be arranged. Please allow me, for the time being, to continue playing around with it somewhat and post what else I come up with.

Info for all you LOGO makers...

If you logo is picked then we need at least three versions of it (only if the colors don't match). One for the indigo board, one for the white board and one for the black board. So you know ;)

I hear what you're saying, Solomon Levi and I wish I could give you that. However, I'm not that skilled in drawing flowers from scratch and the roses you see on the frame here I had in a folder on my computer with a collection of old/gothic style imagery I had originally purchased for the sake of designing occult books (ancient alchemy texts, grimoires etc.). So I unfortunately can't promise you anything, but I will be happy to see what I can do. :)

And thank you for your kind words about my humble logo attempt.

Please post the exact color code that we can make use of to ensure accurate blend of the logo background (if of concern) with that of the forum. Not the RGB blend proportions, please, but the actual color code (RGB magenta for instance being: #ff00ff, black being #000000, white being #ffffff etc.). If you have no way of figuring out the exact color code, please put a sample image (just a small square, for example) of that color that we can copy and learn the code from. This, of course, is not a necessity for white and black as these are what they are, but there are different nuances found here and there o the internet of the color indigo and this can make it problematic from time to time. Especially also when people's definition of indigo don't always match each other.

Sorry for the inconvenience, Deviadah.

No problem, I know all those by heart. The indigo is #4B0082.

I slept on this logo. Looking at it now I am not sure I like the right circle... the proportions are weird. I guess you use photoshop, or something like it, so if you have time could you try - to see what it looks like - to have only the right VITRIOL circle, next to it (on its right side) the ALCHEMY FORUMS, below the sentence and around the frame.

I think it will work better if you see the VITRIOL circle. So I mean all the text are on its right side, and the whole logo is in height just a little bigger than the VITRIOL circle. If you get me?

Or perhaps use the Caduceus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caduceus) or the Phoenix (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phoenix_(mythology)) somehow?

OR leave it as it is but make it so the text doesn't cover the images. I would like to compare what it looks like.

Any thoughts? I think what you did is a very good start. Let's somehow make it even better if you are up to it.

Also the think about the size. If too big people have to scroll down too much to see the whole forum. Don't make the height bigger than the indigo logo that is at the top of the forum at the moment. Width is more free.

I wish I could help you out with all the details, Deviadah, but I am afraid that I will have to decline. I assumed that since we were asked to give logo ideas, we would simply give a couple of them and then people could choose. It's not my intention to be uncooperative here or anything like that, but I simply do not have the time to start all over again with the size and design specifics you gave. I simply fiddled around a bit because I had the time and I really wanted to help the forum out, but I am afraid that I don't have sufficient free time to do everything from scratch again and try out a variety of options until we hit the "jackpot". My profession is graphics and I usually get paid for this line of work. I made these logo ideas for free and on my own time so I hope you understand why I cannot continue to dedicate any number of hours to this project. If I have to try out the various possibilities you mentioned, it would take several hours (in addition to those already spent on the first ones I made) and probably still result in a bit of back-and-forth communication about it until everyone is satisfied.

So I have decided to withdraw my participation in this logo matter. I hope it is not found offensive by anyone and that you all understand my position on it. I'm sorry that I cannot be of any help after all, but there might be someone else in here who can do even better and who has the time and work effort to spare. :)

Please forgive me, but as the logo will not be used as is anyway, I would like to use it (or maybe something inspired therefrom) myself for something different - obviously not with the "Alchemy Forums" title. :)

So I would like to request that the forum have someone else make another logo from scratch. That way I can still use what I made without bothering anyone by using the same thing in two different places.

I apologize to you all for the inconvenience.

What is the big fuss really? Relax. You have submitted a logo. Many thought it was very good. I came with a few suggestions and then everything went to hell?

Everyone is doing everything for free around here... I know photoshop pretty good and I know what I asked won't take more than one hour max. I don't have a problem with you not wanting to do it, but I do have a problem with you taking back what you have done.

Dear Deviadah,

I already apologized beforehand, and I feel I did so pretty calmly, so I do not understand why you have to take such a tone with me. It appears that I am not the one in need of relaxing. I mean no disrespect, but it feels like I am the one being disrespected right now. I was happy to help out with whatever time I had on my hands, otherwise I never would have participated in the logo matter in the first place. I also mentioned that if people wanted different background colors then that could easily be arranged. I even made a few different versions to ask people which one they liked best.

But then, Deviadah, you suddenly started asking me to change this and that, try this, try that... I would originally not have had any problem trying to accomodate you (if or when I had the time to spare), but the way you said it sounded very unappreciative (which it might, of course, not have been, but that's the way it sounded) and so it made me feel like I was offering my hand and you reached out and grabbed my entire arm! This just offended me somewhat as it felt like the help I was trying to give was taken for granted. It might just have been that you were simply being slightly inconsiderate in your way of phrasing yourself, but in that case I would ask that you pay attention to such in the future - just to prevent yourself from offending people, or at least causing misunderstandings.

Everyone is doing everything for free around here...
All the more reason to show appreciation and not take things for granted. Again, it might just be that I "read" you incorrectly and if so I do apologize. But then I request that you, in the future, make yourself more easily understood.

I know photoshop pretty good and I know what I asked won't take more than one hour max.
That would also be the case with individuals who know very little about what they are doing using software such as Photoshop, Illustrator and the like. However, when you work more "elaborately" (for lack of a better term) with such graphics software, you usually spend a great deal more time with things because you touch-on and tweak various details and you try to make things accurate. However, the time it would take is irrelevant. The fact that I spend my free time working on it is what matters. That statement of yours just made it sound even more like you showed no genuine appreciation for the effort and merely took it all for granted.

Please do not misunderstand... I have no desire for "acknowledgement" or anything of a like trivial nature, but what I do desire is that people show kindness, respect and appreciation for each other and their efforts - especially in a community such as this where people like us are supposed to be "evolved". We as alchemists are supposed to be an inspiration for mankind - for each individual and their development and all as a whole.

I hope you take no offense to this post and understand it for what it is.

To the rest of you, I apologize for this being something of a "complaint post".

Yours in the Great Work,

Tesposinus
