Fulcanelli refers to this word a few times, emphasizing the interpretation
"double science".
I was wondering the other day what that means - why is alchemy a double science?
If it was "triplomat", I'd assume "alchemy, astrology and kabbalah".

Can anyone enlighten me what it means or refers to - double science?

I did think of one connection today. Maybe it's a code word to point out Bismuth...
bis - two
muth/math - science

I also noticed how similar, anagramatically, stibium and bismuth are.

Hermetism is a Triple Science, Astrology, Alchemy, Theurgy. This is the Trivium Hermeticum.

If I remember Fulcanelli speaks about verbal cabala (different from Kabbalah) and the double meanings, "wake up" "way cup" for example, common and profound senses, like Chemistry and Alchemy are parents, but quite different.

The way to look at Stibium and Bismuth seems effective, and from a lab point of view, yes, both metals are used for the same purposed in my knowledge. You can evenmake a kind of starry regulus of Bismuth like the Antimony.

Thanks Salazius.

For clarity, are you saying a diplomat is one who speaks the green language,
using double meaning? That's what's being referred to as the double science?

They do not speak green, but they are liars for sheeple, but theirs fellows /btw what is the proper expression for member of some bad group?/ understand very well what they mean. Pun intended.

cf. that fckng ugly mulat "change" with reality... or "we can" even much worse/proper example of this, where we=we!

Diplomat = comes from double in latin and in greec.
I think the ethymology speak more than the fonction of the guy "diplomat".

Maybe it means talking in riddles (as is common in alchemy), a diplomat (or at least someone who speaks in such a way) often says one thing but means something else...

Could it mean ... To see both sides?

In this context no.

Diplomacy (διπλωματία diplomatia)
διπλός (diplos - double)
μαθηματικά (mathematika -mathematics/science)
Whence the Gospel of Science (Matthew). There's more but I'll let you run with it.

Sorry Sol, thought you were looking for the cabalistic interpretation of the word and I skipped over the crux of your question. Fulcanelli also makes mention of it as the "rules of diplomacy" when interpreting the differing types of the cabala... I think therein lies the answer as it takes a sort of odd logic to correlate an understanding of the work utilizing the cabala. Something I've never been able to understand or crack is how the "grid" system works in the writings of Rabelais, Cevantes and others. I understand the just of it and of the other subdialects but not with any certainty. Given that it is a type of "science" to understand another "science" (alchemy specifically)...I can see how a diplomat would be a worker of a double science. One that must navigate (πλέω pleo - "dipleomacy") through very austere waters.

"Conscience," says Dr. South, "is a Latin word, though with an English
termination, and, according to the very notation of it, imports a double or
joint knowledge; to wit, one of a divine law or rule, and the other of a man's
own action; and so is properly the application of a general law to a particular
instance of practice." - Remarks upon alchemy and the alchemists... by
Ethan Allen Hitchcock

Mr. Hitchcock and other psychoanalysts present us with a view that one's conscience
is the way to the Stone. He is certainly on to something with this approach.
Again, refer to "revealed only by God" and Androgynus said something recently
about the spiritual and philosophical introductions that often begin alchemical works.
One can also imagine that one without a clear conscience would manage to sabotage
his/her own laboratory work.

There is a lot to be considered here. Diplomat = double science - the yoga/union/alchemy
of one's will to the will of God.

Much of my experience within the last year has been the product of such a union.
I would certainly agree that this "gold" is far more valuable than the metal.

While conscience may not be THE mercury of the Philosphers, it is certainly
A mercury which joins our lower salt nature to the higher sulphur/rational soul;
perhaps A mercury which no alchemist can do without if s/he wishes to succeed.
