I've been noticing the order of colors that begin blooming each spring for
the last two years. This year I made a note to investigate it more studiously.

The first color to appear in my area is yellow: daffodills, dandelions, oregon
grape, scotch broom... I wonder if that has to do with our "yellow" sun?

There are some whites and pinks in some fruit trees, but pretty much any color
on the ground is yellow for now.

Ive seen a lot of yellow flowers on the ground, mostly green from clover and such, though the majority of my grass is still winter colored. ;)

A great deal of white also has exploded around here, along with purple flowered weeds and such. So green aside, white, purple and yellow are the mains here. :)

I feel a pattern coming on... :D

That reminded me, actually the purple crocuses came up a while ago.
They were the first. :)

I believe the purple coloration is due to an abundance of anthocyanin.

Anthocyanins have shown cancer fighting properties...

Of course the FDA says there are no benefits

I wonder if color is limited by location.
I'm still only getting yellows and violets and whites.
New additions:
yellows - mustards
violets - lilac bush, inside-out flowers, blue camas
whites - easter lillies, dogwood, elderberry

We got some pink roses and something thats red... lol i forget what its called though.

Im waiting to see what the first color rose will be in the main beds to bloom, as the pink ones are in a different location and that may have something to do with it... (they are shielded from the east, facing the west, so maybe rushing to the end sooner then them that get the full balanced dose of light?)

I checked them out today, we got some deep reds, pinks, corals, and very light purples from the roses. Bright deep red irises and i think the yellow lilies are out also. Lot of "warm" colors, waiting to see if some of the others, like the deep purples and blues and such come out more and "balance out" the spectrum, though we did see some of them around easter, like the wisteria and all. :)

Ive got plans for the deep reds and purples though...
