View Full Version : Martial Tincture (Nettle) - No Colour Change

Hi guys. I hope you are all well. If I waffle or am disjointed, please tell me!

Recently, I have been making my 'seven tinctures of the seven planets'. Everything was going fine. I just finished the calcinations and put the salts of lunar (White Willow Herb) in the tincture. The tincture went a beautiful red.

Now when I put the salts of Mars (stinging nettle) in the martian tincture (Sulphur and mercury), there was no colour change in the slightest. It just stayed a deep green. Usually, in all alchemical tinctures I have made, there is ALWAYS a red hue or an obvious colour change

Now I'm thinking either:

1)salts were not calcinated enough
2) no salts in nettle?

If there isn't, is there a way to extract them? Have I done something wrong in the process?

Sorry I don't have an answer - just an observation:

it's interesting that adding the alkaline salts will cause a color change -
the same thing happens with gold chloride solutions when lye is slowly added while vigorously stirring. It will pass through multiple colors.

Maybe I do have an answer for you. The stinging nettle obviously has
a lot of formic acid in it. But if your salts were calcined well, I wouldn't
think this would offset the alkalinity. ???
