View Full Version : Through a glass darkly

1 Corinthians 13:12 contains the phrase, which is rendered in the KJV as "For now we see through a glass, darkly." This passage has inspired the titles of many works.

The word εσοπτρου (esoptron) here translated glass is ambiguous, possibly referring to a mirror or a lens. Influenced by Strong's Concordance (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strong%27s_Concordance), many modern translations conclude that this word refers specifically to a mirror.

Example English language translations include:
Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror (New International Version)
What we see now is like a dim image in a mirror (Good News Bible)

Paul's usage is in keeping with rabbinic use of the term אספקלריה (aspaklaria), a borrowing from the Latin specularia. This has the same ambiguous meaning, although Adam Clarke concluded that it was a reference to specularibus lapidibus, clear polished stones used as lenses or windows. One way to preserve this ambiguity is to use the English cognate, speculum. Rabbi Judah ben Ilai (2nd century) was quoted as saying "All the prophets had a vision of God as He appeared through nine specula" while "Moses saw God through one speculum." The Babylonian Talmud states similarly "All the prophets gazed through a speculum that does not shine, while Moses our teacher gazed through a speculum that shines." - source (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Through_a_glass,_darkly_(phrase)#.22Through_a_glas s.2C_darkly.22)

No comment, just want to put it out there for future reference...

Thanks for bringing this site to our attention!
Wow. How do you find all these fascinating sites?!
I love where your attention is drawn to, Albion. :)

Interesting Device ! ! !

Is that you? Maybe in your wild days of unorthodox experimentation?

It's (almost) a 'Tripod of the Wise'... With sort of a 'Tarot Magician' on top of it :)

Technically, it’s called an “Above/Below Pattern-Recognition Amplifier.

Incoming data-streams from both directions are channeled to the device located between the operators’ two ears where pattern recognition takes place.

I realize that, currently, there are more portable versions available but I still say that the old analog models deliver a finer, as-yet-scientifically-unaccounted-for, grain of quality.

[...] an “Above/Below Pattern-Recognition Amplifier [...] data-streams from both directions [...]

It looks to me that both dishes/saucers are set/curved to receive from UP (Above), only at different angles.

But please correct me if I perceive it wrongly...

Good observation...

This particular model features a variety of settings. The one pictured is the "As Above: Stereo" option.

The Mirror Mind of the Cyclic Universe: It’s the Structure of Creation

This site comes the closest I've ever seen (in the world of modern science) to a philosophical/hermetical/integrated perspective.

But then again, the Great Artists have known this stuff all along :)

And by 'Artists' I don't only mean Alchemists, but also Great Healers, Writers, Poets, Music Composers, Painters, Sculptors, Architects, Film Makers...

Back to the concept of the Alchemical/Philosophical Stone Age, where Arts and Sciences are integrated and UN-fragmented...

Maybe this Philosopher's Stone Age is 're-turning' in spiral mode, on an even higher level :)

As iCulture collapses - Revelations abound.

The Parable of Hans Schatten

"There once lived a gardener in a place not known in part but in all. The gardener so could not plant anything somewhere in particular, but could only plant where he himself was as being nowhere and everywhere.

The gardener wished to plant an apple-seed he had found to be part of himself in the place he was and so the gardener thought of himself as not being nowhere anymore, but to be right in the place of the apple seed.

So the apple seed became real and occupied a real space, but caused the gardener to disappear from that real space into an unreal space. The gardener so became the unreal image in unreal space of the real image of the apple seed in the real space.

And so the apple seed was born as real space to occupy, but being surrounded by an unreal space and there where the gardener still followed his dream to see the apple seed grow and blossom into a full apple tree after he had planted it.

For the dream of the gardener was to grow the apple seed into a full apple tree and after reaching maturity, the apple tree would blossom and yield its fruit of apples which carried their own apple seeds within.
Because this was the plan of the gardener as the unreal image of the real image. Should the single apple seed become two apple seeds, then any two apple seeds could image each other and the real images in the real space, would enable the gardener to use the real image of one of the apple seeds to mirror himself in the realness of one of the apple seeds in the gardener's unreality becoming real in the reality.

Then the single seed of the gardener could multiply and the single apple tree could become a forest of apple trees and so on ad infinitum.

But there would always have to be the first single apple seed which the gardener had become in real space as the image of himself in the unreal space. There could not have been two seeds of the one gardener, because two seeds would have meant that the gardener divided itself into two and that was not the plan of the planter.

This initial apple seed would always remain to be the Seed of all Seeds around which the other seeds and apple trees and apple forests could grow, multiply and reproduce.

Then the gardener would find himself in the real space too and leave his exile in the unreal space. The gardener would become reborn as the image of the image and all other apple seeds would similarly become gardeners themselves, as this was the nature of all things and the beginning of it all.

Hans Schatten; for my apple seeded daughter in the unreal space to become real.

I Am One in Many and I Am Many in One!" [endquote]

(83) Jesus said, "The images are manifest to man, but the light in them remains concealed in the image of the light of the father. He will become manifest, but his image will remain concealed by his light."

(84) Jesus said, "When you see your likeness, you rejoice. But when you see your images which came into being before you, and which neither die nor become manifest, how much you will have to bear!"

I was looking for some place to post about Da Vinci's mirror writing and i am
so glad i re-discovered this thread in google search. And thanks to Seeker of Truth for inspiration.

This idea of seeing through a glass/mirror darkly... I experience it as a mirror.
When we wake up, everything gets turned around and backwards relative to
what was. What we used to think as sane appears insane; what was reasonable
is now nothing close to reasonable. Everywhere we see people doing things
that simply don't work, and they keep doing them. We see images talking to their
own images, imagining/dreaming they are people talking to other people. Or are the
people dreaming the images? That is precisely the significance of the mirror. Which
side is the real side? Well, what is real relative to? (rhetorical! please don't "infect" this
thread with more subjectivity and objectivity. :))
Anyway, I've posted this quote elsewhere, but it makes a great point here IMO.

"All of us luminous beings have a double. All of us! A warrior learns to be aware of it, that is all. There are seemingly insurmountable barriers protecting that awareness. But that is expected. Those barriers are what makes arriving at that awareness such a unique challenge"...
"All that I can say about it, by way of explanation, is that the double, although it is arrived at through dreaming, is as real as it can be"...
"But can the double act in behalf of the self?"
"It is the self, damn it!" ...
"Genaro has come because he wants to tell you about the other," don Juan said.
He made a gesture of giving don Genaro the floor. Don Genaro bowed. He turned slightly to face me.
"What would you like to know, Carlitos?" he asked in a high-pitched voice.
"Well, if you are going to tell me about the double, tell me everything," I said, feigning casualness.
Both of them shook their heads and glanced at each other.
"Genaro is going to tell you about the dreamer and the dreamed," don Juan said...
"My benefactor explained that the dream in which one was watching oneself asleep," don Genaro went on, "was the time of the double."...
"I told you that Genaro came to show you something; the mystery of luminous beings as dreamers. You wanted to know about the double. It begins in dreams. But then you asked, 'What is the double?' And I said the double is the self. The self dreams the double. That should be simple, except that there is nothing simple about us.
"Perhaps the ordinary dreams of the self are simple, but that does not mean that the self is simple. Once it has learned to dream the double, the self arrives at this weird crossroad, and a moment comes when one realizes that it is the double who dreams the self."
"The lesson last night, as I told you, was about the dreamer and the dreamed; or who dreams whom."
"Last night Genaro guided you through the intricacies of the double," don Juan went on. "Only he can do that for you. And it was not a vision or a hallucination when you saw yourself lying on the ground. You could have realized that with infinite clarity if you had not gotten lost in your indulging. And you could have known then that you yourself are a dream; that your double is dreaming you in the same fashion that you dreamed him last night."
"But how can that be possible, don Juan?"
"No one knows how it happens. We only know that it does happen. That is the mystery of us as luminous beings. Last night you had two dreams and you could have awakened in either one, but you did not have enough power even to understand that."

I would like to give another clue about the dreamer and the dreamed that may be missed
by some readers. When i used to read these books years ago, I hadn't really considered it.
If you've read CC, you know DJ slaps his assemblage point to move him into heightened
awareness. Well there are other manipulations as well. See if you recognise this:

"Don Genaro sat up straight and slid closer to me. He patted me on the shoulder repeatedly, and said that I was a rascal. Then he pulled my left arm with great force towards him. I lost my balance and fell forward. I almost hit my face on the hard ground. I automatically put my right arm in front and buffered my fall.
One of them held me down by pressing on my neck. I was not sure who. The hand that was holding me felt like don Genaro's. I had a moment of devastating panic. I felt I was fainting. Perhaps I did. The pressure in my stomach was so intense that I vomited.
My next clear perception was that somebody was helping me to sit up."

Anyone recognise this maneuver?
Here it is - couldn't find a shorter version:

Another is the hand shake interrupt. This one has an explanation:

So was Genaro cheating? No. This is simply showing us how the double is related to hypnosis
and how hypnosis is related to the second attention/dreaming. And how thin the veil is.
Shock is one way to shrink the tonal.
"The tonal shrinks at given times, especially when it is embarrassed. Once the tonal has shrunk, the nagual ,
if it is already in motion, no matter how small that motion is, will take over and achieve extraordinary deeds."

"The tonal is the organizer of the world. Perhaps the best way of describing its monumental work is to say
that on its shoulders rests the task of setting the chaos of the world in order."

So when we shock the tonal with a hand shake interrupt or arm pull, it shrinks and the nagual comes forth because
we have done something confusing and chaotic, unfamiliar to the tonal when it expected a hand shake.

Anyway, I hope this doesn't seem off-topic. To me, this is what the mirror is about. Perhaps even Da Vinci was
saying that his genius/muse was his mirror image/dreamer/nagual.
For those familiar with CC's work, you may recall when he and DJ brought an inorganic being into this world
through a mirror submerged in water.
In the Ramtha school we had an exercise with a large (3x4 feet) mirror which each person had their own and sat in front
of in the dark with a candle lit off to the side for soft light. The mirror was not special or magical in any "extra" way than
any mirror is. You can see a lot of interesting things while gazing at your eyes in the reflection. This was not for entertainment -
I don't want to go into details, but you can gather the purpose from what was said above about tonal and nagual, dreamer and
dreamed and switching places. A side-effect of this exercise was that many orbs (a manifestation of inorganic beings) would
come through the mirrors and fill the great hall.

The following is not the mirror exercise - it's something we called field work. But as I've sort of described elsewhere,
by doing this pranic breathing and raising the consciousness into analogical mind/second attention/dreaming, you can
see that the world of dreaming/second attention is the realm of inorganic beings/orbs. They are very interested when
they find people who can communicate/mercury/messenger between the two attentions. This doesn't happen
anywhere you point an infrared camera:

What's interesting as well is that this is very similar to the blizzard of "particles" one sees when approaching the void
through the EM spectrum. I think this was also described by the Wingmakers material and LERM (light encoded reality matrix).
