Thank you in advance for reading and any tips/advice you can give.
I have taken extracts and tinctures for years for good health. I am an avid gardener and will be planting a new garden with herbs and medicinal plants. (Also have a greenhouse.) I want to grow my own herbs and plants and make my own extracts because I am sure I can do a better job than a mass retailer at this!

I have read some things for beginners on this site which have been very helpful and I am working up my first project(s) in my mind and preparing to start. I really liked the Prima post (7 extracts of 7 herbs) beginner work. Now I just need to choose and obtain herbs and other equipment. So, here is/are my question(s):

I need a few good books. I would like one on alchemical process and how to, one having to do with herbs (and other materials) and their properties, and some kind of resource for planetary alignment and what herbs/substances go with each. (moon, planets, movements etc...)

Here is one I found that might be good for herbs, wondering about identification as well... although I will grow most of my own. Cunningham's Encyclopedia of Magical Herbs (Cunningham's Encyclopedia Series)
by Scott Cunningham (http://www.amazon.com/dp/0875421229/ref=pe_157280_21274830_pe_ace_dt2)

This looks like it might be a good starting place, but not sure what all would be included in it:
Real Alchemy: A Primer of Practical Alchemy, by Robert Allen Bartlett (http://www.amazon.com/dp/0892541504/ref=pe_157280_21274830_pe_ace_dt3)

There are more commercial type books as well, which I am still looking for the basic how to book on basic chemistry. Distillation mostly, and crystallization and how to get the salts off whatever they are crystallized on. :) Alchemy for Dummies or something like that. I am finding plenty on theory and have studied other similar metaphysical healing and meditations for years, but if there is a theory book or resource that you particularly love let me know.

Thank you again!!
Be well,
Sara M

Hi Sara.
Real Alchemy is a good book.
Also The Alchemists Handbook is a good beginner book with planetary associations too.
Culpepper's Herbal is really good for planetary associations.

My first two, and two of the best. Frater Albertus is often cited, but these were far far more instructive for me. YouTube has many videos on various types of distillation: simple, fractional, steam (for separating Alchemical Sulphur), vacuum (for low-temperture needs of oils like Valerian). ebay has been a source of affordable organic glassware, heating mantles, etc.
