Re-named thread, formerly Swedish X-mas & Fly Agarics

Christmas is big in Sweden (it is celebrated from the beginning of december all the way into january) and the Swedes love to decorate. In Sweden Santa Clause is not the only character, we also have TOMTAR. A kind of elf like creature. Read more about them here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tomte

Anyway something that is a big part of Swedish X-mas decorations are fly agarics (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amanita_muscaria) (perhaps this exist in other countries as well, I don't know), some examples below:

The shamans of the Sami people (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sami_people) probably used fly agarics to achieve altered states of consciousness, I know the Siberians shamans did so. Their reindeer eat them then the shaman drink the urine in order to get high. Of course ever since childhood, and every Swede knows this as we are a big mushroom picking nation, parents/teachers say: DON'T TOUCH THE FLY AGARIC!

Hmm, I know they are dangerous if ingested incorrectly... but they don't say don't eat them in the wrong way because you might die, instead do this/do that... they say don't touch them period!

The Swedish government has been very good at destroying the Sami culture, but ideas are bulletproof.

Found this: http://bardofely.hubpages.com/hub/Father-Christmas-and-the-Fly-Agaric

The red and white of the traditional clothes that Santa Claus wears matches the colours of the hallucinogenic Fly Agaric fungus, and reindeer eat this truly magical mushroom too. This seemed far too much of a coincidence to ethnobotanist Jonathan Ott who came up with a novel idea to explain the myth of Father Christmas.

I like the fact that the fly agaric tributes are still alive in the X-mas decorations of every Swedish family. It sits there, unnoticed, often accompanied by a tomte (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tomte).

Maybe that explains the true meaning of the phrase: Merry X-mas!

Some have also linked it to the easter egg hunt - in their young stage they
are all white and round and hidden under trees.

I think it's embedded in many cultures/traditions.

Joseph = sun, Mary = Moon. Combine both and you are Stoned ;)

Happy Shroom Mass xxx :)

Edit: A possible origin of the word "Stoned" a trivial titbit :) : From 1898 through to 1910, diacetylmorphine was sold under the trademark name Heroin (the word, invented by Bayer, based on the German "heroisch," meaning "heroic, strong). It was marketed as a non-addictive morphine substitute and cough suppressant. Bayer said the drug was a cure for morphine addiction but later it was discovered that it rapidly metabolizes into morphine. Oops! It was found that diacetylmorphine = a quicker-acting form of morphine. The company was embarrassed by the new finding, which became a historic blunder for Bayer. Later, as with Aspirin, Bayer lost some of its trademark rights to heroin under the 1919 Treaty of Versailles following the German defeat in World War I. During the time heroin by Bayer was legal and sold in New York City you could buy it at a factory outlet store located on 40 Stone Street (the origin of getting stoned?).
