This is a Phoenix-thread (http://forum.alchemyforums.com/showthread.php?t=7) from the old site (http://alchemy-forums.forumotion.com/forum.htm).

Heh, I can start a thread on anime now that we have a general discussion area.

Do any of you guys/girls watch Blood+ and/or Death Note on Adult Swim? These are two of my favorite anime shows.

I've been addicted to Blood+ ever since I started watching it. Death Note is just beginning, and episode 4 will air this Saturday - I hear ep 4 is REALLY GOOD! The only problem I have with Death Note is they replaced Bleach with it; which kind of sucks because Bleach was just getting good. Hopefully after they finish Death Note they'll put Bleach back in the lineup. I heard they had to wait for the studio to finish dubbing the next set, and I hope that's the real case (like I hope they didn't cancel it).

I'm totally psyched about this Saturday! CAN'T FREAKING WAIT!
Yeah I have seen Blood+ but not Death Note although it looks interesting. I am though mostly into anime films rather than series. My personal all time series is Giant Robo! And when I was a kid I enjoyed Robotech... and of course Ginga Nagareboshi Gin (Silver Fang)!

Neon Genesis Evangelion was kind of ok too.
Making a death note, has been a certain experiment that associates of mine had. They actually got it to produce a constant aura of coldness over it, but are as of yet working out the kinks. Have any of you all tried to make one? What has been the most awesome anime item / tech. that you all have tried and gotten results?
I've downloaded Death Note and I must say I have been enjoying it. Although 25% of the episodes I've seen have had English dubbing which sounds horrible. I rather have original voices with subtitles...

Haha, I've thought of doing such a thing before! I might give it a whirl sometime. I would like to see the results.

Of course with such a thing we're definitely getting into the realm of black magick and sorcery, but it isn't much of a problem for me.

You finally got into DN eh? It's a great anime, and perhaps it's one of the coolest I've ever had the chance of watching. I'm a splitting image of L, especially with the posture, complexion, love of sweets, etc. I need to style my hair like that, buy a white shirt, and go around pretending I'm L. However, my psychology is more like Light. Playing God would be so much fun, and yes, I would cleanse the world.

I prefer the English dubs for most anime. There's just something about watching anime in my native language. I find it more enjoyable, and I'm able to get into the show much better.
Naruto fan myself, started out watching Manga when it first came on TV late one night, Akira was shown on late night TV, what an introduction to Anime and Manga cartoons. I sat their and watched it thinking no way they cant show people being turned into mush on a cartoon, it sure beat watching bugs bunny and elmer fud.

Hooked ever since , watched Blood, Legend of the Overfiend (Nice!), Golgo 13 (The prelude to hitman?), Ninja Scroll (Awsome!), ./hack etc.

I have lost count of a lot of them that I've watched, but Naruto movies are a must. A story about a ninja orphan boy with the spirit of the nine tailed fox trapped in his body.

Episodes are long and lengthly but the movies rock!

When youve watched all the Naruto episodes from the first few seasons then you move onto Naruto Shippuden and it just has you hooked. 3-2-1 make some noise!

Movie number 4 is out soon, dont want to spoil it for you.

When you've watched all that then they have some movies along the same lines also worth seeig shinobi "heart under blade" etc

Japanese film makers are sometimes very radical in their way of thinking, they cant have porn in Japan, so their porn could all be classed as soft porn, until you watch some of the cartoons with demons raping women and then you start to think, ah, so thats how they beat the censors! LOL

And some of their films like the movie they made of ICHI the killer are just downright wierd! Not to mention it can make you feel ill. Specially when Kakihera gets that guy and hangs him on fish hooks then washes his back with red hot prawn frying oil straight from the pan!

All the poor guy can say when he wakes up is "what the hell!" LOL

The guy stuffed in a television set with needles stuck in his face just had me laughing my ass off, specially that yakuza guy walking down the street with a needle shoved through his foot and he hadnt even bothered to try to remove it.. yeah man, street cred! LOL

We're talking knitting needle size here, not hypodermics, kakihera's favourite method of torture, but can you expect less from a masochist. LOL

Look for ichi the killer on youtube, hope you have a strong stomache! My absolute fav bit of that film (not the cartoon) was when ichi rescued a girl from her boyfriend who was smashing her face to a pulp and she said "oh, you've killed him, but what will I do now!" to which he replied "dont worry, I will beat you up instead!" LMFAO

I've watched a little bit of Death Note, though not on Adult Swim. I tried watching the English dub, I though it was absolutely horrible.
I couldn't keep watching it on Adult Swim. So I watched the Japanese with English subtitles. It wasn't bad, but I much preferred the manga. I thought the manga was so much better.

I seen all of Death Note, and both live action movies, it was good. :D (go Kira) ;)
I loved the strategy and in-depth thought that went into it. Definitely one of my favorite anime'.

YES! Hahaha, that was full of epicness. I didn't enjoy the ending very much at all. Once L died it went downhill. I really hated Near. Kira should have won, and it was totally against his character to foul up like that. Needless to say it made my very angry! The ending was very dark and depressing too.

The ending of Blood+ was really great. It exceeded all my expectations, and brought tears to my eyes. :)

----

I finished 40 eps of Code Geass a few days ago. Watched all the eps in one sitting. Hehe, that's my preferred method of viewing anime (all at once in a single session). I'm really waiting for Adult Swim to run the new episodes.

I too think that Light should have won. Is it so hard to let a deranged villain with a superiority complex and a warped sense of justice to win? Seriously, they entirely warped Light's character from the original template. It made me so mad, though kudos and laughs to the ending with Mikami making a fountain of blood and rage long enough for light to make a run for it. Also, Light's insanity laugh was worthy of note, surpassing all expectations. But yes, Light slipped up because society has a "good guys always win" complex, and to have it otherwise would be rather unsettling to most. As is often said, "he who lives to write the history books will forever be good" or something along those lines.

As for blood plus, the ending episodes were fantastic, as everything came together in an interesting manner. The opera house setting, the vibrant battle and the dialogue really matched, and it brought a sense of emotion and anxiousness to see it continue. The entire story was worthy of amazement, except for a few episodes of which I suspect could have been done better. It is quite amusing, these stories.

Oh, and on the topic of Code Geass, I loved the series. Lelouch was a maniacal genius who often lost not because of his strategies and intelligence, but his arrogance and impatience. He often over calculated things beyond his means, leading to staggering errors, or he under calculated and underestimated his opponents, not utilizing enough intelligence gathering aspects. His biggest mistake was not releasing the concept of Geass to his followers prior to Prince Schnitzel's shenanigans, and being far too driven by his emotions rather than the goal. He claimed to care more for the result than the means as a character template, but his emotions always clouded the result. The makers could have made the character templates a little more fluid and the story line a little less cliche - But hey, I loved four particular scenes more than all others:

The Emperor's speech on how all things are unequal (Cue line: ALL HAIL BRITANNIA! ALL HAIL BRITANNIA! ALL HAIL BRITANNIA!), The scene with Lelouch stealing the throne with his geass (Cue line: ALL HAIL LELOUCH! ALL HAIL LELOUCH! ALL HAIL LELOUCH!), the scene where Lelouch captures the Damocles, and holds the world hostage with FLEIA and forces them to submit to his rule (Cue line: LELOUCH VI BRITANNIA COMMANDS YOU...... OBEY ME WORLD!), and the scene where Lelouch is killed (Cue line: LELOUCH THE VILLAIN IS DEAD! *cheering from the crowds*).

I finally saw this movie and, even though I liked it, I didnt think that it was as good as everyone says. Maybe the answers to these questions will make me appreciate it more. By the way, these might contain spoilers...

01 Why/how does Plainview realize that Henry is not really his brother?

02 Is Paul actually a real person, or is it Elis way to detach himself from his greed and desire to gain power and money?
I know that in the scene when he is beating his father, he mentions Paul, but I couldnt hear what he said.

03 Is it true that Plainviews son is an orphan, or he says that just to hurt his feelings?

04 Do you guys think that, deep inside, somehow Plainview blames Eli for the accident that left his son deaf?

05 For those of you who loved the movie: why? Whats so great about it?
I do think that Daniel Day-Lewis stole the show. But what else about the movie is so amazing?

THANKS

The only message I got from DN is that power corrupts...but everyone knows that anyway. Good story, I enjoyed it.

I have not seen Blood+. Is it worth looking for?
