As usual, I'm playing around with equipment(s). Could some people who have the time for this foolish writer suggest some vacuum pumps based on laboratory experience? Any suggestion is greatly appreciated.

Yes, it doesn't hurt if the pump costs closer to $0 than to $1000.

I have no experience on the market of vacuum pumps but I use a cheap air compressor to which I have connected the air inlet with the distillation train. It creates good vacuum.

At the recommendation of an experienced biochemist at The Shoomery, I found a GAST DOA 704-AA, which I bid on down to the last few seconds, and bought for $180. This is the one recommended for doing vacuum distillations for those temperature-sensitive organic compounds: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=GAST+DOA+P704-AA&_sacat=0
