was just seeing how octaves represent dimensions musically, fractally, exponentially...
white light (1) splits into 7...
higher octaves and lower octaves are like that one thing manifesting as many under the one alchemical process of multiplication/division, solve/coagula...
heaven and earth are one... as above so below, as below so above...
the 8th sephira corresponds to mercury/hermes/thoth
the 8 of the mobius, infinity, the hourglass, the pelican and pellicle/vellum-fleece of alchemy...
888 - the number of Iesous
the ogdoad - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ogdoad
"The earliest Gnostic systems included a theory of seven heavens and a supercelestial region called the Ogdoad. Astronomical theories had introduced the concept of seven planetary spheres with an eighth above them, the sphere of the fixed stars."
8 is two circles, one deosil/clockwise and one widdershins/counterclockwise, male and female joined, etc...

I think, back in the earlier days, i might have mentioned this on here - but im not sure. It applies to this, as you mention the rotation being opposite yet conjoined/harmonizing.

A small movement-expirement that anyone can do:

• Using both hands, point up with you index fingers

• Make a rotating circle clockwise with one of them, and counterclockwise with the other

• Get them in sync.

• While making the rotations in sync, slowly turn them so that they point at one another - notice that while they were appearing to be opposing, when brought together, they mirror each other and thus go in a single harmonizing direction.

Music/Principle/Harmony in motion and simplicity.

Thanks for the info on the Ogdoad. :)

this alchemical engraving from Michael Maier seems related to the four syzygies... octave, hourglasses...

This is pretty interesting, I've never seen it before. thanks for the awesome illustration/experiment Seth-Ra :)

Is it possible to maybe collect some illustrations on these it would be cool to put together a nice set of simple schematics/diagrams to describe the relations and similarities... maybe draw some parallels. These might be a little juvenile and simple, but illustrate one or two ideas at least. It would be cool to make a collage or something of all of these ideas.

These ones are kind of interesting too:

This one came up... never seen anything like this before (ideas/explanations?):

Some other ones I looked at before on colour theory:

Also on notes there's the chord wheel:

(and the harmony wheel?):

I've also wanted to combine all of these ideas of 7 (/8s) into one unified concept... why does 7 come up so much in the world? In literature? I was thinking maybe the human is set up this way... we are the ones that distinguish colours and discretize the world around us.... and according to George A. Miler, our brains can remember 7 +/- 2 (so that means 5-9) things. Maybe this is why we default to 7?

One thing I think I have convinced myself of is that there are special numbers that are mathematically significant and empirically significant (meaning that they show up in nature/real life)....

the thing I've convinced myself of is that, for example, we have five fingers for a reason.... we have 7 things in our minds for a reason...

five interlocks nicely with seven... there are 5 platonic solids.... platonic solids are interesting too, because there are only 5 of them in 3D space... there can only be five such shapes with the properties that they have... we have five fingers... we fit into this 3D (at least physically it's a 3-Dimensional world.. maybe not including time or whatever) world nicely and we have grown into beings from round cells dividing to become creatures with five fingers...

Also maybe if we were 4 dimensional beings we would have 7 fingers or something? (or 23 fingers...)
(... getting too abstract here if that's possible)

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I think 7 and 8 are tied together since 8 is the first of seven of the second iteration/octave of 7.... A,B,C,D,E,F,G,A.... do,re,mi,fa,so,la,ti,do)

After reading the thread on tetrads (http://forum.alchemyforums.com/showthread.php?26-Tetrad).. I also noticed....
2x2 = 4
2^2 = 4
First non prime is 4... primes 1,2,3,5,7,11
Second is 6... third is 8
Eight is a little more complicated in some sense..
2x2x2 = 8
2^3 = 8

... it's a bit hard to follow, but we have primes 1,2,3,5.... 4 is first non-prime and is bigger than three.... 2 to the power of 3 (i.e. 2^3) is 8... everything is contained within 4 so we haven't even considered 5,6 or 7 and the numbers we can make with 1,2,3, and 4 reach up to eight...

this might not seem so interesting to everyone, but it got me thinking... I'm always thinking of new ways of counting.
