Hey,
This is a copy-paste from Wikipedia, I just thought its interesting for the spagyrics path.

Mandrake is the common name for members of the plant genus Mandragora, particularly the species Mandragora officinarum, belonging to the nightshades family (Solanaceae). Because mandrake contains deliriant hallucinogenic tropane alkaloids such as atropine, scopolamine, apoatropine, hyoscyamine and the roots sometimes contain bifurcations causing them to resemble human figures, their roots have long been used in magic rituals, today also in contemporary pagan traditions such as Wicca and Odinism.

I also hard that some alchemists used it for producing gold. Oo

What planet is it considered under?
Ok that was a very good question.
I went through a few books to search for that..
found out this on Culpeper's - Complete Herbal, book.

Time.—It flowers here in July and August.
Government and Virtues.—It is governed by Mercury.

Mandrake Belongs to a family of plants called Solanaceae all of which contain a poison called Solanine
which can be hallucinogenic and Mandrake contains many other hallucinogens so it is not surpising it has
been linked to magic.

Below is a list of some of the family members:

Datura spp Datura Jimsonweed, metel nut, Thorn Apple
herbaceous : Datura are potent members of the Solanaceae family, relatives of other well known narcotic
plants such as henbane and mandrake....

Atropa belladonna Belladonna Deadly nightshade
Perennial sub shrub : Belladonna, or deadly nightshade is no longer used in herbal medicine. Its leaves, roots
and black berries are dangerous....

Capsicum minimum Cayenne Pepper Capsicum ,African Pepper, Chillies, Bird Pepper
Tender perennial shrub : Capsicum, an extract from cayenne and other peppers, can dramatically reduce
chronic nerve pain, and is effective against chronic pain like arthritis and neuralgia...

Hyoscyamus niger Henbane Hog bean, stinking nightshade
Annual or Biannual plant : Henbane has been used medicinally since the time of Pliny in ancient Greece, but
it is not a herb to be taken for home use....

Lycium barbarum Goji Berries Lycii berry, Boxberry, Boxthorn, Wolfberry
deciduous woody shrub : Goji berries are high in the ranks of superfruits, valued for their nutritive and
antioxidant properties....

Withania somnifera Ashwagandha root Ashwaganda, Ajagandha, Indian ginseng, Winter cherry
Hardy annual/Tender perennial : It is often touted as the Indian version of ginseng because, like ginseng,
ashwaganda is revered as a non-specific tonic, an adaptogen that is used alone or as an ingredient in
compounds designed to target a variety of conditions....

Other famous members of the Solanaceae family of plants are:

Potato
Tomato
Aubergine (eggplant)
Bell Peppers
Chinese Lantern (Physalis)

and there are many more.

Solanine poisoning is primarily displayed by gastrointestinal and neurological disorders. Symptoms include
nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, stomach cramps, burning of the throat, cardiac dysrhythmia, nightmare, headache
and dizziness. In more severe cases, hallucinations, loss of sensation, paralysis, fever, jaundice, dilated
pupils, hypothermia and death.

While potatos contain Solanine just under the skin it is quite safe, however allowing sunlight to the tuber
starts a synthesis and greening of the potato. The solanine levels can rise to more than 100 times the normal
level.

Potato plants can produce fruit which look like green tomatos, these are very high in Solanine and should not
be eaten.

The author G. Edward Griffin coined the phrase The Mandrake Mechanism (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Mandrake_Mechanism#The_.22Mandrake_mechanism.2 2) a banking system we have all grown to know and love :)

In a Wiki article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Touch_piece#Good_luck_coins), new age author González-Wippler (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Migene_Gonz%C3%A1lez-Wippler) records that if money is left with a Mandrake root it will double in quantity overnight.

Just found another interesting member of the Solanaceae family of plants...

Nicotiana rustica (http://www.biopark.org/peru/mapacho.html) or Mapacho, a tobacco smoked during Ayahuasca ceremonies.
