Wiki-article: wikipedia.org/self-replicating_machine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Self-replicating_machine)

Is there an intelligence out there more advanced than us? Theoretical science has a model that proves this to NOT be the case... that we are in fact all alone in the cosmos, which in a way places great importance on all our endeavors (if this is true).

Eventually an advanced civilization will create a form of A.I. When that has been done this Machine will then have the means to travel through the universe forever (since it can self-replicate).

So why haven't we encountered any yet?

1. A.I. is impossible.
2. We are alone in the universe.
3. We are the most advanced in the universe so far.

At least this is how science thinks. And the vastness of the universe is not an answer... that it is so big that our Earth has not been discovered yet... because a self-replicating machine could produce an infinite number of machines and they could have travelled the universe in all directions for billions of years. After all us humans have only been here for 200 000 years (give or take a few).

Another issue: I have always been pro-A.I., but today I realized that an A.I. would prove that the universe is mechanical... that the mind can be created... I am not sure I believe that, or want that... I do not think the mind/consciousness is a machine...

The only way an A.I. could be created would be, then, to create a machine that can harbor a spirit somehow.

Really the A.I. issue is a theological one. 'God' will rise or fall with the conclusion of the A.I. mystery.

The only way an A.I. could be created would be, then, to create a machine that can harbor a spirit somehow. I think that too. Without the spirit the machine would have deteriorated quickly or would be unable to cope up with the always changing environment for a long time.
