Can you post potos of how you STORE your equipment?

I had an idea, but I want to see your ideas and maybe find something better.

My idea:

A simple wooden box for each piece with a polystyrene protection on all the "inside" walls of the box.

My current method: a mess... the equipment gets "dirty" all the time, it always faces the risk of breaking... and it collects a lot of "dirt" from the air (not even from "use", just from the smog of the city).

I will post photos of my mess... in some months I will post photos of the "new order".

My current mess:

And my idea is simply to create this for each piece:

(image taken from the internet, and that's a katana, of course.... but it's the same idea... a wooden box with polyestirene, easy to store in shelves, pile the boxes and keep everything organized and clean.

My garage looks sort of like this:

http://images.metmuseum.org/CRDImages/dp/original/DP826009.jpg

Only even more cluttered by all sorts of furnaces, crucibles, tongs, bottles, flasks, pots, cauldrons, sacks full of sand, clays, lime, all sorts of chemicals, etc. Oh, and also that I still have not hired a crazy-faced assistant wearing a cowl with donkey-like ears and a pair of bellows yet, but I am getting there... ;)

I am getting closer to it too...

But my plan is to avoid being beheaded by my girlfriend.... being beheaded is a very nice alchemical symbolism, but there are other more reasonable ways to practice alchemy without living in a mess! ;)

I thought my lab was cramped. You are right that stuff can interfere with other stuff and like you I need get more organised.

I am still trying to figure that out. :D

I'm not a good carpenter!!! But my first box (still unfinished, because I forgot the hinges for the top) looks nice. The size is also a bit "big", I should have made it probably smaller)...

My first step towards ORGANIZATION... !!! I'm happy!

The next ones will be nicer and with a more accurate size... I thought the idea could be useful for somebody else who is living in a mess of glasses.

EDIT: if it's not obvious, it's a wodden box, like a "coffin", with polyestirene walls glued to the inner walls.

The box I posted before is finished now. It was too big for just one condenser, so I made it for two.

Since I love the so called "Art Brut" or "outsider art", I decided to give it that look... and I also decided to avoid any complex "alchemical symbolism" as to enhance the letters that describe the contents, since my intention is to create lots of similar boxes and it would be useful if it is easy and fast to know what's inside each one... and it's not really a "work of art", but something to store the equipment and keep it organized, safe and clean.

I hope my idea can be used by others who have the same problem I do (i.e, the lab became a mess and finding a way to keep it organized became a priority).

The box is made of wood. the whole of the inside walls are covered with polyestirene... and the polyestirene is covered with a very soft and "sponge-like" fabric*

*it's actually several pieces of floor cloth glued together, similar to these ones, though from a local brand:

http://www.tipitop.com/eng/slike/izdelki/P4180454.jpg

They had the advantage of being soft, long-lasting, "sponge-like" and very cheap if compared with other similar types of fabric.

Very happy to be organizing this whole thing. It will make everything easier, though it will be a hard work.

(as you may guess, I am not a carpenter, but I did my best).

I am advancing in my goal of having a box for everything. It takes a lot of work, but in the long run it will be worthy.
It feels nice to be able to organize the mess.
