View Full Version : Regarding Limonite as a "Red Earth"

This is just something i stumbled upon on the web,i don't know if its of any use or if its already known but a quick search didn't show anything so...

I recall seeing a few alchemical texts speak of a material they call "Red Earth", apparently this material is limonite which happens to be a material used in metallurgy which is closely linked to Alchemy.

Curious. The 'Red Earth' has been mentioned before on the forums. You might be interested in Sol's post here (http://forum.alchemyforums.com/showthread.php?4050-Iron-Soul-of-Gold&p=35035#post35035).

The 'Iron Soul of Gold' thread is interesting as well (sol's post redirects there as well).

However, I am curious about how limonite is used, and what it is used as in the metallurgical process. Might you know more about it, Amon? Or be able to provide the source site of the photo?

Edit: I've moved the thread to the Spagyrics forum, as it seems to be more appropriate for the discussion of limonite and metallurgy, and it's implications as a spagyrical 'red earth'. I've changed the thread title to reflect this .

The picture comes from here

Apparently this red earth is the ore they extract the iron from, but i wonder if it has any uses in alchemy as it is
