Thanks, theFool - should make for interesting reading! I stumbled across it, I'm still reading it too. I'm attracted to the quality of writing. Condensated knowledge collected from various writers. A serious work. A pharmacological encyclopedia of that era in England.
The style reminds me of John French's book Art of distillation (who was an english physician and wrote it also at the same era).

I wonder why all this knowledge was lost. For example it is described there how to volatilize the metals. Modern chemists don't know that. There are more curiosities in there.
