Awani, your the funniest bloke that i've never met!

In light of all the growth that im sure your all going through right now, meditating and pondering over Awani's wise words, I propose a group activity.

Would any practical lab alchemists like to do a duel experiment, where we both perform the same experiment and compare our results and findings.

This place is such a beautiful opportunity for collaboration and it completely stumps me as to why this only occurs behind closed doors with a select few.

Anyone keen yet?

What are you thinking the first experiment should be?

Well i think that should be up to anyone else that wants to get involved because chances are that they will have certain equipment and resource limitations, so we'll start from what people CAN do.

I'm not picky, just want to see people moving in the right direction (teamwork)

So Dragon Tail and I are working together to get to the bottom of whether or not there are any sneaky volatile salts escaping out during evaporation that no one is paying attention to. I would just like to invite anyone else who is currenty doing plant work to join the cause and share any experiences they might have to assist in getting to the bottom of this.

I personally think that the negative effects (losing salts) could possibly be occuring when we "boil" off the water rather than evaporate.

I will most likely start this experimentation in another couple of days when my current work is finished, so if anyone else wishes to work as a team to Pioneer this stuff; please advise us so we can bring you in on anything thats happening.

Sorry I've been ignoring my salt experiments. I have the plant salts ready to go. The yellow fluid that I extracted hasn't shown me too much of anything. The first crystals that I go when I spilled some may have been a fluke, and I haven't investigated that reaction farther.

The experiment, in case anyone catches this thread and wants to take a look, that I'm using is pretty simple. Brine in the boiling flask with some boiling beads or other suitable nucleation site. Boil it as hard as you can, then slowly evaporate off the distillate (which should be more or less pure H2O). There's a funny little scum if it goes to dryness that will instantly dissolve in a drop of water and tint it yellow. I've found no use for it yet, but I suspect it reacted with some leftover dust from a tincture filtration to produce bright white crystals....

One version of the dusty residue, though sometimes it appears grainy and yellow:

Tiny crystals:

Blurry, but reaction on a penny (this only happened once and may have been a contaminated droplet from the earlier crystals, I think the dropper touched the pool when I was adding distilled water):

For another collaboration idea...anyone doing anything with black pepper these days? The tincture has some pretty good props on the interwebs, and it does something very interesting when you add water to it ;)
