I consider Hayao Miyazaki to be the greatest living director, and one of the top 5 greatest directors* of all time. A lot of his films have esoteric and alchemical themes. Now finally there is a documentary that goes close up. For a huge fan it is an awesome watch (I was a fan way before Disney dubbed his films and began to copy them - copy them badly I should say). Please watch his films subbed. The dubs are so annoying. IMO.

Episode one (https://www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/en/ondemand/video/3004569/?cid=wohk-fb-org_vod_hayao-202002-001&fbclid=IwAR2vrk4vCy7PUTbJDC8ZxloxPMADT7WVsCkhf-w2MUcKa60cEBXjsC0rYAU) (episode 2-4 can be found in the link)

:p

* The other four would be in no specific order Stanley Kubrick, Akira Kurosawa, Alfred Hitchcock and the fifth I can't decide (Trier, Lang, Chaplin...).

He is indeed really awesome! About 20 years ago I was blown away by "Spirited Away". Since then I also watched several other films by Studio Ghibli. There is not one bad one.

I also like the visual style he keeps on drawing in all his movies since Heidi.

Thanks for posting this!
