View Full Version : Spirit Of Salt

Where can I find a/the reference for producing spirit of salt by dripping water on molten salt in a suitable retort. Anyone have experience of such? Does this apply to this salt/dew path that some are discussing/practicing?

What others are talking about is a fixed salt that flows
like wax on a hot silver plate.
Spirit of salt is not fixed, but it can become so.

Hi solomon levi, I think Joshua is referring to hydrochloric acid produced via a novel method. I've never heard of this method for producing spirit of sea salt, but it does sound interesting.

I'm not sure if this will work properly. I think dripping water on molten salt will only serve to rehydrate the salt, but I could be very wrong. I believe you'll need to be near the decomposition point in order for this to work, and not just at the melting point of the salt.

Actually, this could work, but I am really not sure at all! It's worth a try. It seems to be much easier than dry distilling sea salt and then bubbling through water. Neat idea! Thanks for posting this. :)
