Oh and the open end + funnel question, thats just the type of flasks i had available. I was checking what the effect of projecting the heat of the heating mantle (not seen in pics but its there) straight into the condenser. I even tried some inuitive stuff like putting gravel in the heating flask just to see different effects. Ive learnt so much this week about our art and its exactly like numerous people have said, the practical aspect of this is the master that teaches the student.

Designs for the new series of SM machines is in process.

The design that works best will be called "The Chalice"

    God has gifted me.

The revelation i received about dew collection theory proved accurate.

Now i dont mean to toot my own horn, however: 448.jpg

SMSuperSoaker 3. Just liquefied Lye in two hours in broad daylight.

    Check it out:

Much more effective than beyer IMO.

The magnet is in the elbow in the middle there.
This is just the beginning. I've got big plans now...

Now.... if your a little new to SM, dont get too excited. Without a thorough understanding and internalising of the theory, these recipes here will lead to little or more likely, absolutely no good.

    Thanks again EM!
You may want to try CaCl2 (Calcium chloride) as a magnet. This salt is known for a long time (can be obtained by solving Calcium carbonate(CaCO3; limestone) in hydrochloric acid) and is very hygroscopic. If the SM that's supposed to ride the dew is somehow afraid of that material, I don't know. It will get warm when solved in water though. And at approx. 30C it will solute in it's own crystall water. Maybe that's the observation that confused some in assuming that a salt will melt at low temperatures, as it looks like that (but really isn't).

I recommend reading the wiki for useful additional information, if interested:

    Calcium_chloride

And don't forget to read the "Hazards" section!

Note the flaky look of that salt in the picture ;-)

Hmmm calcium choride hey, ill make some today. My backyard is filled with limestone.

Also chlorocalcite looks really cool too. Its potassium calcium carbonate. Might try making some of that aswell.

So this turned out rather successfully. I woke up this morning to a crazy outcome. Some of the lye had Volatized.

Effects of SM?? You be the judge.

    From Trithemius:

Here is the entire more significant part of the Trithemius text, the more "practical" part that follows the religious dissertation. It is IMO a great summary of the foundation of Great Work:

"This Breath is the Spirit or Soul of the World and is called Spiritus Mundi. It was, at first, like air, then condensed into a nebulous substance or fog and finally transmuted itself into water. This water was at first spirit and life, because it was impregnated and vivified by the Spirit. Darkness filled the abyss, but by the emission of the Word, the Light was engendered, the darkness was illuminated by the Light and the Soul of the World ("The Astral Light") was born.

This spiritual Light which we call Nature or Soul of the world is a spiritual body which may be rendered visible and tangible by alchemical processes; but as it is naturally invisible, it is called Spirit.

It is a living universal fluid diffused throughout Nature, and which Penetrates everything. It is the most subtle of all substances; the most powerful, by reason of its inherent qualities. It penetrates every body and determines the forms in which it displays its activity. By its action, it frees the forms from all imperfection; it makes the impure pure, the imperfect perfect and the mortal immortal by its indwelling.

This essence or Spirit emanated from the beginning from the Center and incorporated itself with the substance of which the Universe is formed. It is the "Salt of the Earth", and without its presence the plant would not grow, nor the field become green and the more this essence is condensed, concentrated and coagulated in the forms, the more stable they become. It is the most subtle of all substances; incorruptible and immovable from its essence. It fills the infinities of space.

The sun and planets are but coagulations of this universal principle; from their beating heart they distribute the abundance of their life and send it forth into the forms of the interior world and in all creatures acting about their own center and raising the forms on the way of perfection. The forms in which this living principle establishes itself become perfect and durable so that they no longer decay nor deteriorate nor change in contact with the air. Water can no longer dissolve them, nor fire destroy them nor the terrestrial elements devour them.

This Spirit is obtained in the same way as it is communicated to the Earth by the stars and this is performed by means of the Water; which serves as a vehicle to it. It is not the Philosopher's Stone, but this may be prepared from it by fixing the volatile. I advise you to pay great attention to the boiling of the Water. Do not let your spirit be troubled about things of less importance. Make it boil slowly, then let it putrefy until it has attained the fitting color, for the Water of Life contains the germ of wisdom. In boiling, the Water will transform itself into Earth. This Earth will change into a pure crystalline fluid; which will produce a fine red Fire; and this Water and this Fire, reduced to a single Essence, produce the great Panacea composed of sweetness and strength, the Lamb and the Lion united."
    Hi Andro,

Could you provide the bibliographic details for this text, please?

It's in RAMS and it's called 'Confession of Trithemius'. That's all I know about this text.

THIS tells a bit more about the author's less alchemical endeavors (scroll down just a little).

Thanks, I will look it up in RAMS.

Yeah, I was only aware of the role Trithemius played in cryptology and magic respectively, so far, via his famous Steganographia. Didn't know that he was an alchemist also (given that the work you quoted was really written by him).

Andro; you mentioned you have not yet made the Stone.

I was simply wodering if you would confirm for me whether or not you have made a medicine (via these methods; the ones tou regularly employ) and whether or not you found it to be useful.

Im not picking for details; just a yes or no answer will quell my curiosity.

Quoth ICH in "Hermes Old Nature Way":

The agent to pull the astral spirit down from the sky and corporify it is the heat of the common Fire, because the Fire is the food of the Air and attracts it, and as such happens, it is transformed into Water.
    Quoth Hyle & Coahyle:

Take the glass or Instrument here illustrated, put a moderate Ignis under it, standing in hot sand, and the heat will attract the air-water and fill the glass. [...] And this water is the vinegar of the philosophers or their Menstruum. This Menstruum or water also contains the elements. Out of air it has turned into a tangible water.
There are (of course) some deliberate omissions in those texts, but one can tinker around to fill in the blanks
