here's something I've been working on for a while. comments are appreciated.

    For the Sake of Vanity.

    I
He came to be from thought alone within
    the imagination. His unity
    discordant and truth misinterpreted,
    supplemented with an environment
propagating the death of the artist,
gave rise to those dead, indifferent eyes.

But then I am forgetting dear dreamer—
time conspired to retire through chemical
confusion and some lost and lonely union
between the three self's of reality
(which for the sake of vanity remain
    without definition), so purpose was,
well, just as confusing to find without
    reliable direction.

    Year. Two. Three.
It all moves so quickly. Just a moment
in her presence rid the mind of worry.
What was she without words. . . contradiction?
In her finest form chemically deceiving?

I should add, the hero of our modern tale
was grave enough to wander Maya's veil.
    And though his consciousness distorted—
    strangely rearranged and disordered—
he lived enough through music to contend
with the new solitude she created
(what a hero! We are reminded of
all the novel things which came before us).

    II
With the new solitude she created
images of the self in quick decline.
    Subjectivity of mind parted
from reality (and this to mean those
objective and absolute states of mine
    were then abandoned for complexities)
    and became reality, the structure
    for the imagination to decay.
His new solitude was not hard to find,
simply turn tail and hide, however,
    deeper solitude crept around inside
and found the process of losing close friends.
So many, so few words I said to you.

What then do we desire of loneliness?
A parting of the sensory, the 'I's?
    Definitions of despair's emptiness
to further the understanding of God?
    A marionette? Some marijunette?

“A few friends who are not really friends,
a few who are, and for time to slow down.”

“To become creative with the sound [ohm].
For style and grace to measure pound for pound.
And personalities to be pushed around
    while contemplatively smoking a hookah.”

    III
    While contemplatively smoking a hookah,
absorbed in the thickness of it all, we
forgot to breath out and relax ourselves,
forgot to speak up and ask of ourselves
the value of the words Naomi destroyed.
    God. Sanity. Friendship. Illusion. Death.
    Each image distorted by ignorance.
And even though Lodi could not be found,
thoughts of her—lithe, light, limpid—leapt around.

Look now! I forgot about all those friends
who meant so little to me. Everything
was in and out of dream, everyone was
    concerned with their conversation's vanity.

Nice, I am smoking one right now reading your poem.

Don’t let the delusion of reality confuse you regarding the reality of the illusion.

My God I have been drinking!
(feel free to drink with me)
And the night isn't close to over yet...

Will you think of me while you're gone?
Will you consider this as long-term reproduction?
Or will you indulge in that fantasy
    I don't feel comfortable with?

    These questions aren't right...
    Should be something like:
    What will happen next?
    How can I reproduce
    Nature in a flask?
What is the purpose, if any, of life
    without death?
When will you come back to me?

    Or something along those lines...
God I need to sober up.
(feel free to sober me up)

I would dry your tears, but I am the salt dissolved in them.
I would ease your labor pains, but I am the newborn babe.
