Exclamation How to join Alchemy Forums

WE DO NOT ACCEPT ANY MORE MEMBERS FOR THE TIME BEING.

Note: We are only accepting new members if the application indicates potential for valuable contributions. Self-appointed 'gurus' and 'masters' need not apply

    How to join Alchemy Forums

We have decided to make registrations 100% manual, and this is why automatic registration is disabled.

Before you apply for joining the Forum, please consider the following:

    • If you only intend to read posts/threads - there is no reason to join the Forum, as these are visible to non-members as well. New members who don't post anything for 100 days after joining will be deleted.
    • If you intend to preach 'your way or the highway' - you will not fit in well... All ideas are welcome at Alchemy Forums, as truth is not in the hands of any single person.

However, if you want to actively participate (which means sharing your own thoughts/ideas/experiences, as well as asking questions), then you will have to become a registered member.

To become a Member of Alchemy Forums, all you need to do is:

    1. Make yourself familiar with our Rules & Guidelines and with our Disclaimer, as well as This Rule. The Site Related section can also be very useful for tips and for having a better understanding of how things work.

    2. Send an e-mail to: [new e-mail coming soon]

    3. Write in the subject field: Alchemy Forums Application

    4. Write a short Bio of yourself and state the reasons why you want to join Alchemy Forums (50-150 words). If you write (for example) "I am interested in alchemy" or "I like alchemy", then you will be denied, as this is not enough. You don't have to be a master alchemist, but we want people with a deeper interest than just shallow curiosity.

    5. In your application, please write a bit about yourself (it doesn't have to be too personal, only enough to get a general idea) and also write about your more particular areas of interest, especially to the extent to which they are relevant to the topics discussed on this Forum.

    6. Avoid being too cryptic, vague or ambiguous in your application and, if you are approved, in your subsequent Forum posts. We want to make sure that you are able to contribute to constructive and coherent discussions and that you can write in a way others can understand - as opposed to vague one-sided comments and increasingly common abbreviated text messaging codes and shortcuts.

    7. Have at least a half-decent command of the English language (it doesn't have to be 'perfect'), and express yourself clearly (to the best of your ability), doing the best you can to use proper wording, syntax, phrasing, spelling, paragraphs and punctuation.

    8. Write what username you want to have on the Forum (chose a relatively communication-friendly username, one that doesn't look like a spam-bot or a cloned replicant), and no, numerical extensions to your username are not mandatory - so please try to pick a username that's human-friendly. Just for reference, names like "grandmasteralchemist542" or "5hk*f987%&A" are bad username examples. AVOID USERNAMES with numbers in them!

    9. Write a temporary easy password (which you can later change in settings, once you have been admitted).

    10. If you want to join Alchemy Forums, it means you want to participate in the discussions and add to the growing database of knowledge and ideas. If you only want to lurk, then you don't need to become a member, as everything can be read without having to log in. The Forum Search function does not work if you are not a member, but you can use the Forum's Google Search function even if you are not a member.

    11. Another thing to keep in mind, is that this Forum is not a public service (it's privately funded, but we also have occasional and optional donations from our generous Patron Members) - so, as a Guest here, you will have to respect and comply with (as opposed to complain about) our very relaxed 'Rules of the House' and administrative decisions.

    12. This Forum is not a Private Messaging Service, either (in case your prime reason for joining is to mainly conduct your affairs in PM). The PM feature is just a bonus and an optional addition to public discussions (public discussions from which everyone can benefit, hence the name 'Forum'). Besides, you need to make 25 public posts before being allotted full PM access.

Why do we do it like this?

In order to keep the high quality of posts that we have and to ensure that those who join add to the quality of the Forum.

    Approval

Approval can take anything from one hour to one week, so please be patient. When you are approved, you will receive an e-mail regarding this. You can then log in to the forums with your username and password. It is highly recommended to change your password in settings (top right of the forums) as soon as you log in for the first time.

    Denied

If you are denied, please don't be upset - it just means that we did not feel you were right for the forums at this time, and we reserve the right to change our minds if you provide us with a good enough reason to do so.

Please note: due to the high volume of applications we do not send 'denied' emails out... this means if you hear from us you have been accepted, if you don't hear from us you have been denied (or we haven't got round to your application yet).

    Thank you!

Note: We are only accepting new members if the application indicates potential for valuable contributions. Self-appointed 'gurus' and 'masters' need not apply

Donít let the delusion of reality confuse you regarding the reality of the illusion.
