I've been thinking on this more. Mercurius as three -fold or "triple fixt"

Spiritus Mundi, Secret Fire, Mercurius. All three are adaptations of One thing. Which means they're all from the same original substance.
Art is Nature in the flask; Nature is a vial thing.

    Fulcanelli:

"In its subtle state it is a Universal Spirit, and we call it our Mercurius, but when it descends and penetrates the world, it thickens and coagulates to become the Soul, and we call it our Sulphur. Lower, it freezes in a body, and we call it our Salt”.

The colored image in the Mellon miscellanea pictured above comes from this version of the Mercurius, in Giovanni Battista Nazzari s work in 1564 ()

It s also closely realted to the Abraham Eleazar / Baruch tradition, ofwhich Flamel s work is a part. The fact that the Mercury is called PYTHON tells us this.

Although the three headed Python does not appear emblematically in the Eleazar Uraltes Chemysche werke, it is nonetheless discussed, but it appears in the Clavis artis manuscripts:

Biblioteca dell’Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei version:

    Atillio Hortis Trieste version:

It s been discussed and explained symbolically and philosopically to death, but I think we can agree it s just a part of the process, a stage of the Materia as phisical and as palpable as it gets.

This is not an apparatus. It s a conglomerate.

The Dragon Is the Mercury, that is why the Mercury head is not tightly entwined in the tail, there is no need to, it is an integral part of the Dragon and shows it s identity. The Moon and the Sun are dissolved in it and held tightly (tail) but become parts of the whole, hence the representation of the heads. The Mercurial head hints even more at the disollution, because we see all elements clearly distinguished: The blazing Sun, the horned moon, and the Acid or Corrosive cross below, joined into one.

The Black face is a direct refference to it s identity and the link with Saturn, the origin of the Dragon.

The Clavis artis manuscript pictures its nature by three things:

    1. The most obvious, the three labelled heads
    2. The less obvious, the three colors consistent throughout: The Red of the Sulphur, The Green of the Mercury, and the Yellow of the intermediate Salt.
    3. The hidden: The Dragon is active and spews fire (Sulpur), has a volatile nature by it s tail raising upwards (Mercury) but it s four legs are firmly planted on the ground (Salt).
