Thread: Hello from Colombia

    Lightbulb Hello from Colombia

    Hello people!

    I would like to introduce myself. I am a man currently living, working, loving, thinking and acting in Colombia.

    In recent years i went through a kind of inner transformation:

    - extrovert --> introvert
    - nervous --> calm
    - smoking --> breathing
    - booze --> water
    - agnostic --> hermetic
    - indifference --> curiosity
    etc.

    I don't know what it was that changed something in me, but it happened. I used to be a normal member of the society i live in, but then i realized that i don't want to be part of it anymore.

    Personally i find, modern society is a big, superficial illusion (or is the whole world we live in a total illusion?), a big fake without true values. I try not to complain, so i just drew the consequences out of it and am living now almost exclusively with the inner family, without much contact to others. I only socialise with others when it's inevitable. I like to stay at home and read a lot (in the internet and recently taking on books too). Though i walk in the parks daily and enjoy nature too. Chess and painting are two of my other beloved hobbies. Nevertheless, happiness and serenity lives within me, i like my new life and i plan to become 120 years old - at least.

    Well, i am particularly interested in hermeticism, still i don't know much. I want to walk the long and rocky path of enlightenment and personal transmutation. Theory before practice is my credo, hence i read as much as i can for now, finishing the Kybalion right now and already squinting on the Corpus Hermeticum on the shelf. I have Bardon's "Initiation of Hermetics" in the house, but i will wait with it, as it is a practical approach. Other books on my list: Tabula Smaragdina, Tibetan Book of the dead, Picatrix, and some newer, modern books i still have to figure out.

    Though not a Colombian born, i find the shamanistic indigene cultures of central, south, and north america very interesting, provided they are still intact. Maybe its a kind of nostalgia from my side back to simpler and purer times. I definitely admire some of their worldviews and philosophies.

    Anyways, i hope i can learn a lot from you in this interesting forum and hopefully i will be able help others too in a not so distant future. I am sorry for the many "I's", "me's", "my's" and "myself's" in the text. It's just hard to not focus on the ego in an introduction thread

    And to the admins: Thank you very much for approving the access!

    Welcome to the forums.

    You might enjoy the Shamanism section that deals a lot with indigenous cultures (which is my interest as well).

    Welcome!

    So, are you a Hermeticist or a Gnostic?

    You don't have to answer this, but I would be curious where you are from originally (on Earth), and how the culture you grew up in may be connected/related (or not) to American Indigenous cultures...

    @Andro, thank you! I think i am none of both yet. But i am reading a lot into Hermeticism at the moment. It's still to early, i do not know nor understand much at the moment, hence the thread you mencioned..

    To my heritage: Let's say i'm a white European from a smaller european country. Once Europe had it's kind of shamans and medicine men too, the Druids for example. Also something of my interest. If i remember right, there are still active, traditional shamans in northern Europe: Among the Lapps, an indigenous tribe in northern Scandinavia.

    I cannot speak for any secret underground shamanism, but in general the Lapps have been utterly destroyed - especially their shamnism and general culture. It has simply become products in tourist shops. The last official/traditional shaman died a few years ago (as I understand it). Hopefully some went underground.

    That i did not know. Sad. And the usual modus operandi. I hope there are still a few around. It's a tragedy and a shame.

    You seem like a wonderful person, Quarrox. Welcome!

    Edit: Any idea what MBI "personality type" you are?

    Thank you very much, Schmuldvich. Very kind words! I have never heard of "MBI personality type". But i googled it and it led me to a personality test page, and the result says "the mediator", if that is what you mean.
