    this will be a long post. It will cover aspects of Hermeticism and Alchemy, as well as megaliths and "advanced" technology and mythology and ascension and the antideluvian civilization(s?) and a good deal many other things as these are ultimately connected, and I shall demonstrate for you, O Reader, how it is clearly thus, and you will find with honest consideration that a great deal many things that may have been obscured to you are now utterly crystalline clear, and the Author can only hope that you may return the favor should he ever be in need.

    The Author affirms this communication is true, may Hu see that it is so.

    As the Author has very little patience for speculation and what he refers to as "feelsies" everything that will be revealed here is based on hard, touchable, physical, tangible evidence that can be affirmed with small difficulty on behalf of any Doubter. The Author will be speaking from a foundation of Material evidence, such as stonework and writing and other observable phenomenon that does not require any special initiation or technique on behalf of the Observer.

    These are the most up to date findings about the origins of our (I'm assuming you're a native Earthling here, dear Reader) species

    Radiormetric testing of the layers of volcanic ash surrounding the fossil has revealed the approximate age of the jawbone to be between 2.75 and 2.8 million years old, which makes it the earliest evidence of the Homo genus ever discovered. Prior to the find, the oldest known Homo fossil had been a 2.3-million-year-old upper jaw also found in northern Ethiopia, so the dating pushes back the origin of the Homo genus by at least 400,000 years.

    So the human form has been around (accounting for evolutionary time scales) for safely 3 million years. Can we prove these human forms possessed the same sort of consciousness as we enjoy here, now, today? Unfortunately through sheer fossil evidence alone, we cannot. So how can we know beyond any shadow of a doubt whether or not we were intelligent on a given position of our genetic timeline? The answer is, literally, childs play: Art

    This is the oldest artwork that I am aware of that is known to man:



    This cave art consists of numerous cupules - non-utilitarian hemispherical cup-shaped depressions - hammered out of the rock surface. Geological investigations of the prehistoric sites by renowned archeologists Bednarik, Kumar and others, have established that this rock art pre-dates the Acheulean culture of the Lower Paleolithic era, and must therefore date from at least 290,000 BCE.

    However, once more advanced dating methods become available, it is conceivable that these petroglyphs will turn out to be much older - perhaps originating as early as 700,000 BCE - although at present this is mere speculation.

    In 9 people we went from the guillotine to 3d hologram zoo shows in Dubai (youtube it). Yet we are expected to believe that for almost all of our species existence we essentially wandered around scratching in the mud without any real thought. Which the physical evidence I have shown you has clearly proven to be a supposition with no real support. Is there any other available explanation? Indeed there is, and the most reliable sources come to us through Egypt. To quote Graham Hancock, "It's as if modern archaeologists know more about ancient Egyptian history than the ancient Egyptians themselves did, and the ancient Egyptians were really quite clear."

    Manetho wrote for example that according to the stelae coming from the gods of the first (real) dynasty, more than 20,000 works were attributed to Thoth (Tehuti, Hermes). He also reported that these same gods reigned from 33,894 to 23,642 BC. It must be said that this is more than a little disturbing, coming from one whose work is the basis for the entire official chronology of the dynasties recognized as authentic. How handy it is to take some of the facts provided and ignore others that don't fit into our mindset … However Champollion, who had read many original texts, endowed as he was with a sense of flair and extraordinary genius, recognized the existence of at least 42 of these books of Thoth: "There are altogether 42 principal books of Hermes [Thoth] including 36 presenting the whole of Egyptian philosophy, which are studied by the priests of the upper classes."     The pre-pharaonic past of Egypt remains a very great enigma because the question remains as to what exactly occurred during the mysterious period prior to 3000 BC, date of the appearance of the first official pharaoh known as Menes-Narmer. At that time, in a few decades, without any warning, there suddenly appeared in a surprisingly perfect form, writing, perfect pyramids, erudite astronomy, technical skills and knowledge - everything that goes with a very sophisticated civilization. And it all seems to have arrived very quickly.

    As the English Egyptologist Toby Wilkinson put it so well: "They seem to have no ancestors or periods of development, they seem to have appeared overnight." The French authority Gaston Maspero (1846-1916) comments about the Egyptian texts: "The religion and the texts which made it known to us were already established before the first dynasty. In order to understand them it is up to us to put ourselves in the frame of mind of the people who constructed them, more than seven thousand years ago." (Revue de l'Histoire des Religions, vol. XIX, p.12)
    The ancient Egyptians viewed their civilization as a legacy coming directly from divine beings who existed in Egypt thousands of years before the pharaonic dynasties that we know about. The papyrus of Turin (or more exactly the royal canon displayed at the museum of Egyptology of Turin), written in hieroglyphics and dating back to Ramses II, presents a list of all the pharaohs who reigned in the land of Egypt.

    This list includes not only the historical pharaohs, but also the "divine pharaohs who came from elsewhere" who reigned before the first dynasty of Menes. We are also told that this preceding lineage reigned for 13,420 years!
    Fortunately the Palermo stele also cites these so-called "mythical" pre-dynastic kings going back thousands of years. It refers to Horus himself as having reigned over the land of Egypt. According to Manetho, Thoth reigned approximately from 8670 to 7100 BC, "after the night of the battle". Hesiod, the renowned historian and moralist living at the time of Homer (8thC BC), obtained most of the information he recorded in his Theogamy, a genealogy of the dynasties known as celestial that reigned on Earth, from the Egyptian high priests.

    The Egyptian High Priest Manetho (Ma-n-Thoth) from Sebennytos in the Delta, Master of the Secrets (3rdC BC), who had access to the library of Alexandria and who wrote for the pharaoh a history of Egypt in Greek in 30 volumes, the Aegiptiaca, also cited these pre-dynastic dynasties of divine origin
    Manetho gives us very interesting details on the dynasties called "divine", which he divides into three categories: Gods, Heroes, and "Manes". He also explains that the category of the Gods was divided into seven sections, each having a god at its head, including Horus, Anubis, Thoth, Ptah, Osiris and Ra, and that "these gods who originated from Earth then became celestial and associated with the stars as they reached heaven". (It does indeed say "originating from Earth" - and there is undoubtedly much to be discovered in the subterranean realms of our planet.) Next are the Heroes, beings with supernatural terrestrial powers, and finally the "Manes" (also called "Khus"), glorious beings corresponding to the spirits of ancestors revered in other cultures. Osiris himself says, in The Book of Coming Out by Day: "The tunnels of the Earth gave me birth."
    All these sources speak to us about a lineage of gods who reigned each one for several hundreds of years, for a total of 23,200 years, then of a list of "Shemsu Hor", called "Followers of Horus", who reigned for 13,400 years. Then come the names of the "normal" Pharaohs whom we know. The fact that divine and semi-divine sovereigns could each have reigned hundred of years is unacceptable in our view of things, but we should ask ourselves why we accept without flinching the hundreds of years of life of the people and prophets of the Bible, such as Enoch who lived over 360 years. Many factors explaining a much slower aging process can be understood today through science: different terrestrial gravity, lower density, or better protected or different DNA, or other ways of measuring time. There are many theories that could justify such life spans.
    Professor Walter B. Emery (1903-1971), an excellent archaeologist with 45 years of experience excavating in Egypt and author of the book Archaic Egypt, found in certain tombs the remains of people who lived in pre-dynastic times in the north of Upper Egypt. The features of these bodies and skeletons are incredible. The skulls are of abnormal size and are dolichocephalic, i.e. the cranium as seen from above is oval, and is about 25% longer than it is wide. Some skulls show no sign of the usual sutures. The skeletons are larger than the average for the area and especially the skeletal frame is broader and heavier. He did not hesitate to identify them with the "Followers of Horus" and found that in their lifetime they filled an important priestly role. With regard to the long-headed skulls, it seems that it is not a prehistoric lineage of evolution but rather a lineage coming from a cycle of civilization from before the Flood.

    These enlarged skulls have already been found in several regions of the world. Dr. J. Von Tschudi and Mariane E. Rivero in Peru have indentified three pre-Inca dolichocephalic races, the Chinchas, Aymaras and Huancas. They also found that if the Chinchas had a lengthened skull it was because they bandaged the skulls of their children in order to resemble the two other groups, who did not bandage their skulls. They managed to work out that the original group with the most marked natural characteristics were the Chinchas. They preceded the first Inca, Manco Capac, and probably influenced both the Incas and the Maya in later times. Researchers A.H. Verrill and Posnansky point out that the oldest pre-Inca city in Peru, Tiahuanaco, dates from the same time as pre-dynastic Egypt, and enlarged skulls of this period can be seen in Tihuanaco Museum.

    For those not familiar with the connection of Thoth to Hermes and the entire Art we are gathered here to discover:

    Nothing is for certain about the Book of Thoth other than the fact that it was written in Egyptian Hieroglyphics. It was kept in a golden box in the inner sanctuary of the temple and only the highest initiate of the Hermetic Arcanum Mystery School had the key to it. It is said the book described the Key to Immortality, the process achieved through awakening certain areas of the brain, similar to the Buddhist monks’ practices. Gardner and other authors claimed the awakening of the brain was achieved through meditation, the use of a white powder, and the priestesses’ sacred essence.
    This school was also known as the Great White Brotherhood due to the members choice of raiment (white robes) and their dedication to producing the white powder known to the Mesopotamians as Shem-an-na, the High-Ward Fire Stone, or ‘white bread’ to the Egyptians. Pictures of it show it being offered to the Pharaohs, in the shape of a cone.
    Petrie discovered on the top of Mount Sinai, an Egyptian Temple which contained a bewildering discovery: laying some inches deep beneath heavy flagstones in a storeroom was a considerable supply of the finest pure white, unadulterated powder. Copper smelting and animal sacrifice were quickly ruled out.
    Some of the mysterious powder was taken back to Britain for analysis and examination, but no results were ever published. The rest was left open to the elements after 3000 years to become a victim of the desert winds. What has become apparent, however, is that this powder was seemingly identical to the ancient Mesopotamian fire-stone or shem-an-na - the substance that was made into bread-cakes and used to feed the Babylonian kings and the pharaohs of Egypt. This, of course, explains the temple inscriptions denoting the importance of bread and light, while the white powder (the shem-an-na) has been identified with the sacred manna that Aaron placed in the Ark of the Covenant.

    Greeks in Hellenistic Egypt recognized the equivalence of Hermes and Thoth
    Both Hermes and Thoth were gods of writing and of magic in their respective cultures.[citation needed] Hermes, the Greek god of interpretive communication, was combined with Thoth, the Egyptian god of wisdom, to become the patron of astrology and alchemy. In addition, both gods were psychopomps, guiding souls to the afterlife.

Cicero enumerates several deities referred to as "Hermes": a "fourth Mercury (Hermes) was the son of the Nile, whose name may not be spoken by the Egyptians"; and "the fifth, who is worshiped by the people of Pheneus [in Arcadia], is said to have killed Argus, and for this reason to have fled to Egypt, and to have given the Egyptians their laws and alphabet: he it is whom the Egyptians call Theyt".[8] The most likely interpretation of this passage is as two variants on the same syncretism of Greek Hermes and Egyptian Thoth (or sometimes other gods): the fourth (where Hermes turns out "actually" to have been a "son of the Nile," i.e. a native god) being viewed from the Egyptian perspective, the fifth (who went from Greece to Egypt) being viewed from the Greek-Arcadian perspective. Both of these early references in Cicero (most ancient Trismegistus material is from the early centuries AD) corroborate the view that Thrice-Great Hermes originated in Hellenistic Egypt through syncretism between Greek and Egyptian gods (the Hermetica refer most often to Thoth and Amun
    Fowden asserts that the first datable occurrences of the epithet "thrice great" are in the Legatio of Athenagoras of Athens and in a fragment from Philo of Byblos, circa AD 64–141.[12] However, in a later work, Copenhaver reports that this epithet is first found in the minutes of a meeting of the council of the Ibis cult, held in 172 BC near Memphis in Egypt.[13] Hart explains that the epithet is derived from an epithet of Thoth found at the Temple of Esna, "Thoth the great, the great, the great."
    Many Christian writers, including Lactantius, Augustine, Giordano Bruno, Marsilio Ficino, Campanella, and Giovanni Pico della Mirandola, considered Hermes Trismegistus to be a wise pagan prophet who foresaw the coming of Christianity.[14][15] They believed in a prisca theologia, the doctrine that a single, true theology exists, which threads through all religions. It was given by God to man in antiquity[16][17] and passed through a series of prophets, which included Zoroaster and Plato. In order to demonstrate the verity of the prisca theologia, Christians appropriated the Hermetic teachings for their own purposes. By this account, Hermes Trismegistus was either a contemporary of Moses,[18] or the third in a line of men named Hermes, i.e. Enoch, Noah, and the Egyptian priest king who is known to us as Hermes Trismegistus[19] on account of being the greatest priest, philosopher, and king.[19][20]

    This last account of how Hermes Trismegistus received that epithet is derived from statements in the The Emerald Tablet of Hermes Trismegistus, that he knows the three parts of the wisdom of the whole universe,[21] the three parts being alchemy, astrology, and theurgy. It was Marsilio Ficino who stated that "they called him Trismegistus because he was the greatest philosopher and the greatest priest and the greatest king".[22]

    Another explanation, in the Suda (10th century), is that "He was called Trismegistus on account of his praise of the trinity, saying there is one divine nature in the trinity."

    Sayyid Ahmed Amiruddin has pointed out that Hermes Trismegistus has a major place in Islamic tradition. He writes, "Hermes Trismegistus is mentioned in the Quran in verse 19:56-57:'Mention, in the Book, Idris, that he was truthful, a prophet. We took him up to a high place'". The Jabirian corpus contains the oldest documented source for the Emerald Tablet of Hermes Trismegistus, translated by Jābir ibn Hayyān (Geber) for the Hashemite Caliph of Baghdad Harun al-Rashid the Abbasid. Jābir ibn Hayyān, a Shiite, identified as Jābir al-Sufi, was a student of Ja'far al-Sadiq, Husayn ibn 'Ali's great grandson. Thus, for the Abbasid's and the Alid's, the writings of Hermes Trismegistus were considered sacred, as an inheritance from the Ahl al-Bayt. These writings were recorded by the Ikhwan al-Safa, and subsequently translated from Arabic into Persian, Turkish, Hebrew, Russian, and English. In these writings, Hermes Trismegistus is identified as Idris, the infallible Prophet who traveled to outer space from Egypt, and to heaven, whence he brought back Adam and the Black Stone when he landed on earth in India.[27]

    According to ancient Arab genealogists, Muhammad the Prophet, who is also believed to have traveled to the heavens on the night of Isra and Mi'raj, is a direct descendant of Hermes Trismegistus. Ibn Kathir said, "As for Idris...He is in the genealogical chain of the Prophet Muhammad, except according to one genealogist...Ibn Ishaq says he was the first who wrote with the Pen. There was a span of 380 years between him and the life of Adam. Many of the scholars allege that he was the first to speak about this, and they call him Thrice-Great Hermes [Hermes Trismegistus]"
    Ibn Arabi speaks of Hermes's travels to "vast cities (outside earth), possessing technologies far superior then ours"[28] and meeting with the Twelfth Imam, the Ninth (generation) from the Third (al-Husayn the third Imam) (referring here to the Masters of Wisdom from the Emerald Tablet), who also ascended to the heavens, and is still alive like his ancestor Hermes Trismegistus".[29]

    A late Arabic writer wrote of the Sabaeans that their religion had a sect of star worshipers who held their doctrine to come from Hermes Trismegistus through the prophet Adimun.
    Antoine Faivre, in The Eternal Hermes (1995), has pointed out that Hermes Trismegistus has a place in the Islamic tradition, although the name Hermes does not appear in the Qur'an. Hagiographers and chroniclers of the first centuries of the Islamic Hegira quickly identified Hermes Trismegistus with Idris,[31] the nabi of surahs 19.57 and 21.85, whom the Arabs also identified with Enoch (cf. Genesis 5.18–24). Idris/Hermes was termed "Thrice-Wise" Hermes Trismegistus because he had a threefold origin. The first Hermes, comparable to Thoth, was a "civilizing hero", an initiator into the mysteries of the divine science and wisdom that animate the world; he carved the principles of this sacred science in hieroglyphs. The second Hermes, in Babylon, was the initiator of Pythagoras. The third Hermes was the first teacher of alchemy. "A faceless prophet," writes the Islamicist Pierre Lory, "Hermes possesses no concrete or salient characteristics, differing in this regard from most of the major figures of the Bible and the Quran."[32] A common interpretation of the representation of "Trismegistus" as "thrice great" recalls the three characterizations of Idris: as a messenger of god, or a prophet; as a source of wisdom, or hikmet (wisdom from hokmah); and as a king of the world order, or a "sultanate"
    mad Jafar, in his essay "Enoch in the Islamic Tradition", writes:

    The lore that developed around Idrīs’ legendary gnosis led to him being further identified with Hermes Trismegistus (Hirmīs) ... whereby Muslims began to acknowledge Idrīs as the founder of alchemy as well....

    In the Illuminationistic philosophy of the renowned Persian Islamic sage and saint Suhrawardī (c. 1154-1191), Idrīs was revered fundamentally as the teacher of the ancient sages amongst the Hindus, Persians, Babylonians, Egyptians, and Greeks up to the time of Aristotle.... When these Greco-Alexandrian wisdom sciences and the gnostic lore of the Sabaeans of Harrān – who regarded Hermes as their prophet and his writings as their scriptures – spread amongst the Islamic community, Idrīs was immediately identified ... with the founder of Hermeticism ... Mulla Sadra (1571-1636), one of the greatest Muslim sages of the later period, who said: " And Know that Wisdom (hikmah) began originally with Adam and his progeny Seth, Hermes, who is Idrīs, and Noah, because the world is never deprived of a person upon whom the science of Unity and eschatology rests.it is the greatest Hermes who propagated it (hikmah) throughout the regions of the world and different countries manifested it and made it emanate upon the ‘true worshipers’. He is indeed the ‘Father of philosophers’ and the master of those who are the masters of the sciences"
    There is a universal myth, in every language and on every continent, known to every tribe on earth. This is the myth of the Deluge, or Flood and it is also based on observable, real world data. I will conduct another post upon this one subject at a later time, but interested parties should research the Younger Dryas Boundary/event and the work of Randall Carlson.

    Another feature of these universal myths are their references to local geographic monuments in relation to specific stars as well as their role with (if there is any) local megaliths. Megaliths such as the Pyramid of Giza, which I shall show you, O Reader, is related directly to every other megalith on Earth.

    Firstly, why should you as an alchemist care about the Pyramids of Giza? Aside from being the probable location of the real Emerald Tablets and the entrance to the Halls of Amenti, they were built by the Founder of our Thrice Great Art.

    Just for fun, heres the Trilithon, the largest stone ever moved by Man



    in the Lebanese town of Baalbeck, in the ruins of a city once known as Heliopolis, the City of the Sun.

    In the base of the ruins of the Jupiter Baal Temple lie three hewn stones known together as the trilithon. Each is estimated to weigh over 750 tons.

    Whether Roman masons or some other group, someone devised a way to move these massive blocks from the quarry over many miles, and to then lift them onto a base of smaller blocks. In addition to the trilithon, there is a fourth stone in the temple, the largest of them allindeed, the largest stone ever hewn by man.

    Known as the Stone of the Pregnant Woman, it weighs an estimated 1,200 tonsequivalent to three Boeing 747s. This massive weight apparently proved too much for anyone to move, and the stone was left in place where it was cut, an enormous rectangle sticking up at an angle from the ground.

    Seeing as how this topic deals more with 'Western' Hermeticism (Egypt, Greece, etc) and not specifically with the Eastern Alchemical lineage, I've moved it here.
    Also, it's a broad enough topic to deserve it's own thread.

    Heres what I can copy paste atm of a very important post
    Here is a little story to better understand my life. I will cut out a lot of backstory and leave the meat and interesting highlights for you. I can explain these further if need be.

    I was in the center of the Sun. 360 degrees of swirling red and orange warmth and pattern. A massive stone Buddha face appears before me and swirls with the currents flowing between us. It stops suddenly and extends an infinitely intricate and constantly shifting totem pole down from the head where a spine would be on a human. Arms and legs expand and it begins doing an Egyptian style swing/sway dance. (yes at this point I am freaking out) from the bottom of the "pole" (where your Root Chakra is) I saw a blue/white light appear, form a ball and move steadily upwards from it's own accumulated pressure. This blue/white light flowed upwards activating centers where you and I have Chakras until it reached the Throat Chakra, at which point the face opened it's mouth and shot an intense beam of light straight at me with an unmissable HU formed in the center of the Light

    5 years later I'm in a local coffee shop. This shop has flyers and artsy cards left by various local groups and people. There was one card in particular that I still have on my fridge, that when I saw it I only remembered my coffee because the person making it yelled my name as I turned to leave.

    The Hummingbird was, and is, an important bird in puebloan cultures. Hopi legend speaks of the Hummingbird as intervening on behalf of the Hopi people to convince the gods to bring rain. Even today Hummingbird feathers are highly prized and used ceremonially and in dance costumes. All Hummingbird Kachinas are depicted with a green mask and green moccasins.

    CT spell 325 is for “becoming Hu”. A variant manuscript titles the spell “becoming Heka,” which indicates the tight bond between authoritative utterance and magically effective utterance or heka (cf. spell 1130: “Hu is in company with Heka, felling yonder Ill-disposed One for me”). Unfortunately, the contents of the spell are rather obscure, but it seems to associate Hu with the pacification of the fiery Eye of Re, a role typically accorded to Shu or Thoth. The close relationship between Thoth and Hu is to be expected; accordingly, Thoth is asked at CT spell 617 to “commend me to Hu.” That hu plays a role in supplementing sia is indicated by CT spell 469, in which it is said that “the weary (or inert) Sia” sends for “the two Hu-Gods” – possibly the two senses of hu mentioned above, since it is said that they shall permit one to “eat magic” – who accordingly “shall have power over Sia the weary, who is not equipped with what he needs.” It is perhaps this partial independence of hu from sia which is indicated by a statement like that in CT spell 1136 that “Hu who speaks in darkness belongs to me.” Also related to this may be the characterization of Hu in PT utterance 245 as having for companion the “Lone Star” – that is, a star visible when no others can be seen, hence either Venus (Hesperus) or Jupiter (Journal of Near Eastern Studies 25, 160f).

    Something of the nature of hu can be discerned from BD spell 84, where the operator says “What Hu tells me, that have I said. I have not told lies yesterday and truth today.” It is not simply that hu is inconsistent with lying; rather, hu seems to be a consistent ground for what one says. This accords well with the image presented in Egyptian didactic literature of the sage as a person of few words, but those well-chosen.

    I have shown you the Armillary Sphere of Hermes, and to further show how He is indeed the founder of not only the Thrice Great of Alchemy, but that He lay in fact at the Root of ALL FORMS OF ART, WHATSOEVER THEY MAY BE. Here we begin by exploring how our Hermes figure is revered by every culture under different names and guises, but always with the same characteristics and inventions and honorifics being given.

    We have covered Thoth, Hermes and Mercury at some length so I will assume the Reader recollects the established connection between them, and will now show the connection with other mythologies:

    Amongst all, the Greeks most clearly (followed shortly by the Nordic traditions) recall the struggle between "those who came before" and what humanity later identified as the gods themselves. There are many traditions that speak specifically of a struggle (or war, or battle) between either the original gods and their secondary creations or amongst at least 2 factions of the gods themselves, and this battle is always centered around what to do with humanity. I.e. should they be suppressed or allowed as Yahweh says in genesis, to "become as We are?"

    Prometheus (/prəˈmiːθiəs/ prə-mee-thee-əs; Greek: Προμηθεύς [promɛːtʰes], meaning "forethought")[1] is a Titan in Greek mythology, best known as the deity in Greek mythology who was the creator of mankind and its greatest benefactor, who stole fire from Mount Olympus(VN- as the Reader well knows, Fire is a great Sign of our Art) and gave it to mankind.
    Here is the short list of exploits of Prometheus on behalf of humanity. Note his exceptional cleverness and insistence on securing the gods help for humanity, whether they want to or not.

    In the trick at Mecone, Prometheus tricks Zeus into eternally claiming the inedible parts of cows and bulls for the sacrificial ceremonies of the gods, while conceding the nourishing parts to humans for the eternal benefit of humankind. The two remaining central episodes regarding Prometheus as written by Hesiod(VN-the dear Reader will recall I have told him where Hesiod attained his information already) include his theft of fire from Olympus for the benefit of humanity against the will of Zeus, and the eternal punishment which Prometheus would endure for these acts as inflicted upon him by the judgment of Zeus.
    Before his theft of fire, Prometheus played a decisive role in the Titanomachy, securing victory for Zeus and the other Olympians. Zeus's torture of Prometheus thus becomes a particularly harsh betrayal. The scope and character of Prometheus' transgressions against Zeus are also widened. In addition to giving humankind fire, Prometheus claims to have taught them the arts of civilization, such as writing, mathematics, agriculture, medicine, and science. The Titan's greatest benefaction for humankind seems to have been saving them from complete destruction. In an apparent twist on the myth of the so-called Five Ages of Man found in Hesiod's Works and Days (wherein Cronus and, later, Zeus created and destroyed five successive races of humanity), Prometheus asserts that Zeus had wanted to obliterate the human race, but that he somehow stopped him.

    In Norse mythology, from which stems most of the information about the god, Odin is associated with healing, death, royalty, the gallows, knowledge, battle, sorcery, poetry, frenzy, and the runic alphabet,

In these texts, he frequently seeks greater knowledge, at times in disguise (most famously by obtaining the Mead of Poetry), makes wagers with his wife Frigg over the outcome of exploits, and takes part in both the creation of the world by way of slaying the primordial being Ymir and the gift of life to the first two humans Ask and Embla. Odin has a particular association with Yule, and mankind's knowledge of both the runes and poetry is also attributed to him.
    Over 170 names are recorded for the god Odin (see List of names of Odin). These names are variously descriptive of attributes of the god, refer to myths involving him, or refer to religious practices associated with the god. This multitude of names makes Odin the god with the most names known among the Germanic peoples.
    The earliest records of the Germanic peoples were recorded by the Romans, and in these works Odin is frequently referred to—via a process known as interpretatio romana (where characteristics perceived to be similar by Romans result in identification of a non-Roman god as a Roman deity)—as the Roman god Mercury. The first clear example of this occurs in the Roman historian Tacitus's late 1st-century work Germania, where, writing about the religion of the Suebi (a confederation of Germanic peoples), he comments that "among the gods Mercury is the one they principally worship. They regard it as a religious duty to offer to him, on fixed days, human as well as other sacrificial victims.     Anthony Birley has noted that Odin's apparent identification with Mercury has little to do with Mercury's classical role of being messenger of the gods, but appears to be due to Mercury's role of psychopomp.[5] Other contemporary evidence may also have led to the equation of Odin with Mercury; Odin, like Mercury, may have at this time already been pictured with a staff and hat, may have been considered a trader god, and the two may have been seen as parallel in their roles as wandering deities. But their rankings in their respective religious spheres may have been very different.[6] Also, Tacitus' "among the gods Mercury is the one they principally worship" is an exact quote from Julius Caesar's Commentarii de Bello Gallico (1 BCE) in which Caesar is referring to the Gauls and not the Germanic peoples. Regarding the Germanic peoples, Caesar states: "[T]hey consider the gods only the ones that they can see, the Sun, Fire and the Moon", which scholars reject as clearly mistaken, regardless of what may have led to the statement(VN- Yet in our Art we know these 3 figure/symbols very well)[5]
    Writing in the mid-7th century, Jonas of Bobbio wrote that earlier that century the Irish missionary Columbanus disrupted an offering of beer to Odin (vodano) "(whom others called Mercury)" in Swabia.[17] A few centuries later, 9th-century document from what is now Mainz, Germany, known as the Old Saxon Baptismal Vow records the names of three Old Saxon gods, UUden ('Woden'), Saxnte, and Thunaer ('Thor'), whom pagan converts were to renounce as demons
    The poem Vlusp features Odin in a dialogue with an undead vlva, who gives him wisdom from ages past and foretells the onset of Ragnark, the destruction and rebirth of the world. Among the information the vlva recounts is the story of the first human beings (Ask and Embla), found and given life by a trio of gods; Odin, Hœnir, and Lurr: In stanza 17 of the Poetic Edda poem Vlusp, the vlva reciting the poem states that Hœnir, Lurr and Odin once found Ask and Embla on land. The vlva says that the two were capable of very little, lacking in rlg and says that they were given three gifts by the three gods:

During this, the first war of the world, Odin flung his spear into the opposing forces of the Vanir.[26] The vlva tells Odin that she knows where he has hidden his eye; in the spring Mmisbrunnr, and from it "Mmir drinks mead every morning".[27] After Odin gives her necklaces, she continues to recount more information, including a list of valkyries, referred to as nǫnnor Herians 'the ladies of War Lord'; in other words, the ladies of Odin.[28] In foretelling the events of Ragnark, the vlva predicts the death of Odin; Odin will fight the monstrous wolf Fenrir during the great battle at Ragnark. Odin will be consumed by the wolf, yet Odin's son Varr will avenge him by stabbing the wolf in the heart.[29] After the world is burned and renewed, the surviving and returning gods will meet and recall Odin's deeds and "ancient runes"

    Idris ibn Yard ibn Mahla'il‘[2] (Arabic: إدريس‎‎) is an ancient prophet mentioned in the Qur'an. He is considered to be the second prophet in Islam after Adam. He is described in the Qur'an as "trustworthy" and "patient"[3] and the Qur'an also says that he was "exalted to a high station",[4][5] Because of this and other parallels, traditionally Idris has been identified with the Biblical Enoch,[6] and therefore Islamic tradition usually places Idris in the early Generations of Adam, and considers him one of the oldest prophets mentioned in the Qur'an, placing him sometime between Adam and Noah.[7] Idris' unique status[8] inspired many future traditions and stories surrounding him in Islamic lore.

    According to hadith, narrated by Malik ibn Anas and found in Sahih Muslim, it is said that on Muhammad's Night Journey, he encountered Idris in the fourth heaven.[9] The traditions that have developed around the figure of Idris have given him the scope of a prophet as well as a philosopher and mystic,[10] and many later Muslim mystics, or Sufis, including Ruzbihan Baqli and Ibn Arabi, also mentioned having encountered Idris in their spiritual visions.
    Islamic literature narrates that Idris was made prophet at around 40, which parallels the age when Muhammad began to prophesy, and lived during a time when people had begun to worship fire.
    Exegesis narrates that Idris was among "the first men to use the pen as well as being one of the first men to observe the movement of the stars and set out scientific weights and measures."[19] These attributes remain consistent with the identification of Enoch with Idris, as these attributes make it clear that Idris would have most probably lived during the Generations of Adam,[19] the same era during which Enoch lived. Ibn Arabi described Idris as the "prophet of the philosophers" and a number of works were attributed to him.[21] Some scholars wrote commentaries on these supposed works,[22] all while Idris was also credited with several inventions, including the art of making garments.

    This is a great time to delve a little deeper into this Enoch we keep hearing about. In the first book of Enoch, we begin to understand a little better why this character seems so concerned with helping humanity even at the cost of his well being on occasion. (Zeus torturing Prometheus for we don't know how long until Heracles killed the Eagle and released him)

    The introduction to the Book of Enoch tells us that Enoch is "a just man(VN- the first hint that his character is actually, or originally HUman), whose eyes were opened by God so that he saw a vision of the Holy One in the heavens, which the sons of God showed to me, and from them I heard everything, and I knew what I saw,
    The first section of the book depicts the interaction of the fallen angels with mankind; Smazz compels the other 199 fallen angels to take human wives to "beget us children".(VN- here we are told very plainly that there was a conspiracy amongst the beings "higher" than humanity that was apparently very against the Gods given rules, or else they would not have been worried about attempting such a thing)

    And Semjz, who was their leader, said unto them: "I fear ye will not indeed agree to do this deed, and I alone shall have to pay the penalty of a great sin." And they all answered him and said: "Let us all swear an oath, and all bind ourselves by mutual imprecations not to abandon this plan but to do this thing." Then sware they all together and bound themselves by mutual imprecations upon it. And they were in all two hundred; who descended in the days of Jared on the summit of Mount Hermon, and they called it Mount Hermon, because they had sworn and bound themselves by mutual imprecations upon it.
    This results in the creation of the Nephilim (Genesis) or Anakim/Anak (Giants) as they are described in the book:

    And they became pregnant, and they bare great giants, whose height was three hundred ells:[69] Who consumed all the acquisitions of men. And when men could no longer sustain them, the giants turned against them and devoured mankind. And they began to sin against birds, and beasts, and reptiles, and fish, and to devour one another's flesh, and drink the blood.
    It also discusses the teaching of humans by the fallen angels, chiefly Azzl:

    And Azzl taught men to make swords, and knives, and shields, and breastplates, and made known to them the metals of the earth and the art of working them, and bracelets, and ornaments, and the use of antimony, and the beautifying of the eyelids, and all kinds of costly stones, and all colouring tinctures. And there arose much godlessness, and they committed fornication, and they were led astray, and became corrupt in all their ways. Semjz taught enchantments, and root-cuttings, Armrs the resolving of enchantments, Barqjl, taught astrology, Kkabl the constellations, Ezql the knowledge of the clouds, Araqil the signs of the earth, Shamsil the signs of the sun, and Saril the course of the moon.

    In the Dead Sea Scrolls the name Azazel occurs in the line 6 of 4Q203, The Book of Giants, which is a part of the Enochic literature found at Qumran.[8]

    According to the Book of Enoch, which brings Azazel into connection with the Biblical story of the fall of the angels, located on Mount Hermon, a gathering-place of demons of old (Enoch xiii.; compare Brandt, "Die mandische Religion," 1889, p. 38), Azazel is one of the leaders of the rebellious Watchers in the time preceding the Flood; he taught men the art of warfare, of making swords, knives, shields, and coats of mail, and women the art of deception by ornamenting the body, dyeing the hair, and painting the face and the eyebrows, and also revealed to the people the secrets of witchcraft and corrupted their manners, leading them into wickedness and impurity until at last he was, at Yahweh's command, bound hand and foot by the archangel Raphael and chained to the rough and jagged rocks of [Ha] Dudael(VN- this is very reminiscent of the story of Prometheus)
    It seems strange for a group of rapers and pillagers from heaven to bother spending time teaching their captives all the arts necessary to lead a mind to higher states of Being or to even bother being nice to them at all. Here we must tread with caution to Reveal the Truth for ourselves, but we must only remember the character that angered the Gods in order to protect and aid humanity. This character deserves our utmost respect and admiration. Back to the Book of Enoch:

    Michael, Uriel, Raphael, and Gabriel appeal to God to judge the inhabitants of the world and the fallen angels. Uriel is then sent by God to tell Noah of the coming cataclysm and what he needs to do.

    Then said the Most High, the Holy and Great One spoke, and sent Uriel to the son of Lamech, and said to him: Go to Noah and tell him in my name "Hide thyself!" and reveal to him the end that is approaching: that the whole earth will be destroyed, and a deluge is about to come upon the whole earth, and will destroy all that is on it. And now instruct him that he may escape and his seed may be preserved for all the generations of the world.
    God commands Raphael to imprison Azzl:

    the Lord said to Raphael: "Bind Azzl hand and foot, and cast him into the darkness: and make an opening in the desert, which is in Ddl (God's Kettle/Crucible/Cauldron), and cast him therein. And place upon him rough and jagged rocks, and cover him with darkness, and let him abide there for ever, and cover his face that he may not see light. And on the day of the great judgement he shall be cast into the fire. And heal the earth which the angels have corrupted, and proclaim the healing of the earth, that they may heal the plague, and that all the children of men may not perish through all the secret things that the Watchers have disclosed and have taught their sons. And the whole earth has been corrupted through the works that were taught by Azzl: to him ascribe all sin."
    God gave Gabriel instructions concerning the Nephilim and the imprisonment of the fallen angels:

    And to Gabriel said the Lord: "Proceed against the biters(VN- some scholars argue this should read "bastards") and the reprobates, and against the children of fornication: and destroy [the children of fornication and] the children of the Watchers from amongst men [and cause them to go forth]: send them one against the other that they may destroy each other in battle ..."

    Here also will I mention Metatron, who is again another name or manifestation of the same character. Again, look to the ATTRIBUTES listed, and always bear in mind the Founder of our Art would certainly have imbibed a TRUE STONE, and this is the thread that makes the connections between all of these times and places and mythos possible.

    Metatron (Hebrew מטטרון; prob. derived from the Latin mētātor: "one who metes out or marks off a place, a divider and fixer of boundaries", "a measurer",[1] although several other suggestions exist[2]) or Mattatron[3] is an archangel in Judaism and known in Judaism as the Recording Angel or the Chancellor of Heaven (which makes Adramelech his infernal counterpart).[4][5][6] The name Metatron is not mentioned in the Hebrew Bible, nor is it mentioned in the early Enoch literature. How the name originated is a matter of debate. Although Metatron is mentioned in a few brief passages in the Talmud, he appears primarily in mystical Kabbalistic texts within the Rabbinic literature. In that tradition, he is the highest of the angels and serves as the celestial scribe or "recording angel".[7]

    According to Jewish apocrypha, Metatron is the name Enoch received, after his transformation into an angel.[8](VN- this is a very key point that lets us know we are indeed pursuing the same character, who WAS A MAN, THEN BECAME AS A GOD) The book of Genesis (5:24) is often cited as evidence of Enoch's bodily ascension into heaven: "And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him."[
    The identification of Metatron with Enoch is not explicitly made in the Talmud although it does reference a Prince of the World who was young but now is old. However, some of the earliest kabbalists assumed the connection. There also seems to be two Metatrons, one spelled with six letters (מטטרון), and one spelled with seven (מיטטרון). The former may be the transformed Enoch, Prince of the Countenance within the divine palace; the latter, the Primordial Metatron, an emanation of the "Cause of Causes", specifically the tenth and last emanation, identified with the earthly Divine Presence.[12] Furthermore, the Merkabah text Re' uyot Yehezkel identifies the Ancient of Days from the Book of Daniel as Metatron
    The Talmud relates that Elisha ben Abuyah (a rabbi and Jewish religious authority born in Jerusalem sometime before 70 CE), also called Acher (אחר, "other", as he became an apostate), entered Paradise and saw Metatron sitting down (an action that is not done in The Presence of God). Elishah ben Abuyah therefore looked to Metatron as a deity and said heretically: "There are indeed two powers in Heaven!"[18] The rabbis explain that Metatron had permission to sit because of his function as the Heavenly Scribe, writing down the deeds of Israel (Babylonian Talmud, Hagiga 15a).[19]

    The Talmud states, it was proved to Elisha that Metatron could not be a second deity by the fact that Metatron received 60 "strokes with fiery rods" to demonstrate that Metatron was not a god, but an angel, and could be punished
    Metatron also appears in the Pseudepigrapha, most prominently in the Hebrew Merkabah Book of Enoch, also called 3 Enoch or Sefer Hekhalot (Book of [the Heavenly] Palaces). The book describes the link between Enoch, son of Jared (great grandfather of Noah) and his transformation into the angel Metatron. His grand title "the lesser YHVH" resurfaces here. The word Metatron is numerically equivalent to Shaddai (God) in Hebrew gematria; therefore, he is said to have a "Name like his Master".

    Metatron says, "He [the Holy One]... called me, 'The lesser YHVH' in the presence of his whole household in the height, as it is written, 'my name is in him.'" (12:5, Alexander's translation.) The narrator of this book, supposedly Rabbi Ishmael, tells how Metatron guided him through Heaven and explained its wonders. 3 Enoch presents Metatron in two ways: as a primordial angel (9:2–13:2) and as the transformation of Enoch after he was assumed into Heaven.[28][29]

    This Enoch, whose flesh was turned to flame, his veins to fire, his eye-lashes to flashes of lightning, his eye-balls to flaming torches, and whom God placed on a throne next to the throne of glory, received after this heavenly transformation the name Metatron.[30]

    The Zohar calls Metatron "the Youth", a title previously used in 3 Enoch, where it appears to mean "servant".[29] It identifies him as the angel that led the people of Israel through the wilderness after their exodus from Egypt (again referring to Exodus 23:21, see above), and describes him as a heavenly priest.

    In the 2nd century CE, the Christian theologian Clement of Alexandria distinguishes the Gymnosophists, the philosophers of the Indians, from the Sramanas, "the philosophers of the Bactrians":

    Philosophy, then, with all its blessed advantages to man, flourished long ages ago among the barbarians, diffusing its light among the gentiles, and eventually penetrated into Greece. Its hierophants were the prophets among the Egyptians, the Chaldeans among the Assyrians, the Druids among the Galatians, the Sramanas of the Bactrians, and the philosophers of the Celts, the Magi among the Persians who announced beforehand the birth of the Saviour, being led by a star till they arrived in the land of Judaea, and among the Indians the Gymnosophists, and other philosophers of barbarous nations.

    Plutarch records that when first invited to meet Alexander, Kalanos "roughly commanded him to strip himself and hear what he said naked, otherwise he would not speak a word to him, though he came from Jupiter himself."[9] Kalanos refused the rich gifts offered by Alexander saying that man's desire cannot be satisfied by such gifts.[8] They believed that, even if Alexander killed them, "they would be delivered from the body of flesh now afflicted with age and would be translated to a better and purer life."[8] Alexander's representative Onesicritus[10] had a discussion with several sages and Alexander was attracted by the criticism on Greek Philosophy by Kalanos.[5] Alexander persuaded Kalanos to accompany him to Persis[4] and stay with him as one of his teachers. Alexander even hinted use of force to take him to his country, to which Kalanos replied philosophically, that "what shall I be worth to you, Alexander, for exhibiting to the Greeks if I am compelled to do what I do not wish to do?"[11] Kalanos lived as a teacher to Alexander and represented "eastern honesty and freedom".

    He was instructed by Dandamis:

    Alexander met some gymnosophists, who were of trouble to him. He came to know that their leader was Dandamis, who lived in a jungle, lying naked on leaves, near a water spring.[5]

    He then sent Onescratus to bring Dandamis to him. When Onescratus encountered Dandamis in forest, he gave him the message, that Alexander, the Great son of Zeus, has ordered him to come to him. He will give you gold and other rewards but if you refuse, he may behead you. When Dandamis heard that, he did not even raise his head and replied lying in his bed of leaves. God the Great King, is not a source of violence but provider of water, food, light and life. Your king cannot be a God, who loves violence and who is mortal.[6][7] Even if you take away my head, you cannot take away my soul, which will depart to my God and leave this body like we throw away old garment. We, Brahmins do not love gold nor fear death. So your king has nothing to offer, which I may need. Go and tell you King : Dandamis, therefore, will not come to you. If he needs Dandamis, he must come to me[6]

    When Alexander, came to know what Dandamis' reply, he went to forest to meet Dandamis. Alexander sat before him in forest for more than an hour. When Dandamis asked him, why he has come to him because - I have nothing to offer you. Because we have no thought of pleasure or gold, we love God and despise death, whereas you love pleasure, gold and kill people, you fear death and despise God.[6] Alexander, informed that I heard your name from Calanus and have come to learn wisdom from you[6] The conversation that followed between them is recorded by Greeks as Alexander-Dandamis colloquy

    Alexander and the Talking Trees

    Then a certain Indian said to me, “King Alexander, we have something famous, which it is right that you should see. We will show you therefore two talking trees, which talk like human beings.” And as soon as he had said this speech, I commanded them to beat him, as one who had said something which he was not able to show. Then he said to me, “O king, doer of good things, I have not lied in what I have said to you.”

    Then I rose up from there and went a journey of fifteen days with the Indian, and we arrived at a certain place, and thus he spoke: “This is the end of the south quarter of the world, and from here onwards there is nothing at all except a wilderness, and ravening beasts and evil reptiles, and none of us is able to advance beyond this place.” When he had said this to me, he brought me into a beautiful garden, the wall of which was not of stones nor of clay, but trees were planted round it and were so dense that not even the light of the Sun or the Moon was seen through them; and in the midst of the garden there was another enclosure which was hedged round, and they called it the temple of the sun and of the moon.

    And two trees were there, the like of which for length and breadth I had never seen. Their length was immeasurable, and so I thought that their tops were near to heaven. Their appearance was like unto the cypresses which are in our country, and they grew up within the enclosure; and they said that one of them is male and the other female. They said of the male that he is the sun, and that the female is the moon, and in their language they call the one Mitora, and the other Mayosa. Skins of all kinds of animals were lying there, before the male skins of males, and before the female skins of females; but no vessels of iron or brass or tin or clay were found there at all. I did not consent however, but remained awake the whole night. When the dawn was near, I and my friends together with the priest and the Indians again entered the temple; and I and the priest went to the tree, and I laid my hands upon it and questioned it, saving, “Tell me if the days of my life are come to an end; this too I desire to know, if it will be granted me to go to Macedonia, and to see Olympias my mother, and to ask after her welfare, and to return again.” And as soon as the sun had risen and his rays had fallen upon the top of the tree, a loud and harsh voice came from it, which spoke thus, “The years of your life are come to an end, and you will not be able to go to Macedonia, but you will perish in Babylon after a short time by the hands of your kinsfolk, and your mother too will die a hideous death by the hands of your kinsfolk, and in the same way your sister also; but do not ask further concerning this matter, for you wilt hear nothing more from us.”

    This story is positively dripping with alchemical language, is it not?

    This could very, very easily contain a story about Alexander being told he would NOT be initiated into the Mysteries any further. I have found several versions that focus less on Alexanders perspective and describe the palace and especially the head priest in much more detail, but I cannot for some reason locate them at this moment. However this priest in the woods guarding the Twin Trees of Sun and Moon that speak the Truth would be the leader of the group of which Dandamis was a member and also Kalanos, who went back West with Alexander.

    Laozi (also Lao-Tzu /ˈlaʊˈdzʌ/[1] or Lao-Tze, Chinese: 老子; pinyin: Lǎozǐ, literally "Old Master") was an ancient Chinese philosopher and writer. He is known as the reputed author of the Tao Te Ching,[2] the founder of philosophical Taoism, and a deity in religious Taoism and traditional Chinese religions.
    According to traditional accounts, Laozi was a scholar who worked as the Keeper of the Archives for the royal court of Zhou.[24] This reportedly allowed him broad access to the works of the Yellow Emperor and other classics of the time. The stories assert that Laozi never opened a formal school but nonetheless attracted a large number of students and loyal disciples. There are many variations of a story retelling his encounter with Confucius, most famously in the Zhuangzi

    "Master, you've seen Lao Dan—what estimation would you make of him?" Confucius said, "At last I may say that I have seen a dragon—a dragon that coils to show his body at its best, that sprawls out to display his patterns at their best, riding on the breath of the clouds, feeding on the yin and yang. My mouth fell open and I couldn't close it; my tongue flew up and I couldn't even stammer. How could I possibly make any estimation of Lao Dan!" Zhuangzi, Ch. 14

    Laozi's relationship to Confucius is a major part of the Zhuangzi's picture of the philosopher. Of the seventeen passages mentioning Laozi, Confucius figures as a dialogical partner or subject in nine. While it is clear that Confucius is thought to have a long way to go to become a zhenren (the Zhuangzi's way of speaking about the perfected person), Lao Dan seems to feel sorry for Confucius in his reply to Wuzhi "No-Toes" in Ch. 5, The Sign of Virtue Complete. Laozi recommends to Wuzhi that he try to release Confucius from the fetters of his tendency to make rules and human discriminations (for example, right/wrong; beautiful/ugly) and set him free to wander with the dao.

    Lao Dan addresses Confucius by his personal name "Qiu" in three passages. Since such a liberty is one that only a person with seniority and authority would take, this style invites us to believe that Confucius was a student of Lao Dan's and thereby acknowledged Laozi as an authority. In one of these passages in which Lao Dan uses Confucius’s personal name Qiu, he cautions Confucius against clever arguments and making plans and strategies with which to solve life’s problems, telling him that such rhetoricians are simply like nimble monkeys and rat catching dogs who are set aside when unable to perform (Ch. 12, Heaven and Earth). And on another occasion, Qiu claims that he knows the "six classics" thoroughly and that he has tried to persuade 72 kings to their truth, but they have been unmoved. Lao Dan’s reply is, "Good!" He tells Confucius not to occupy himself with such worn out ways, and to instead live the dao himself (Ch.14, Turning of Heaven).

    A seventh-century work, the Sandong Zhunang ("Pearly Bag of the Three Caverns"), embellished the relationship between Laozi and Yinxi. Laozi pretended to be a farmer when reaching the western gate, but was recognized by Yinxi, who asked to be taught by the great master. Laozi was not satisfied by simply being noticed by the guard and demanded an explanation. Yinxi expressed his deep desire to find the Tao and explained that his long study of astrology allowed him to recognize Laozi's approach. Yinxi was accepted by Laozi as a disciple. This is considered an exemplary interaction between Daoist master and disciple, reflecting the testing a seeker must undergo before being accepted. A would-be adherent is expected to prove his determination and talent, clearly expressing his wishes and showing that he had made progress on his own towards realizing the Tao.
    The story of Laozi has taken on strong religious overtones since the Han dynasty. As Taoism took root, Laozi was worshipped as a god. Belief in the revelation of the Tao from the divine Laozi resulted in the formation of the Way of the Celestial Master, the first organized religious Taoist sect. In later mature Taoist tradition, Laozi came to be seen as a personification of the Tao. He is said to have undergone numerous "transformations" and taken on various guises in various incarnations throughout history to initiate the faithful in the Way. Religious Taoism often holds that the "Old Master" did not disappear after writing the Tao Te Ching but rather spent his life traveling and revealing the Tao.
    The third story in Sima Qian states that Laozi grew weary of the moral decay of life in Chengzhou and noted the kingdom's decline. He ventured west to live as a hermit in the unsettled frontier at the age of 80(VN- yet what would human age really mean to such a character?). At the western gate of the city (or kingdom), he was recognized by the guard Yinxi. The sentry asked the old master to record his wisdom for the good of the country before he would be permitted to pass. The text Laozi wrote was said to be the Tao Te Ching, although the present version of the text includes additions from later periods. In some versions of the tale, the sentry was so touched by the work that he became a disciple and left with Laozi, never to be seen again.[33] In others, the "Old Master" journeyed all the way to India and was the teacher of Siddartha Gautama, the Buddha. Others say he was the Buddha himself.
