    The Fundamentals of Fasting

I love (the concept of) Fasting!!

Sure; it is absolutly no fun whatsoever; but the benefits are really astounding. Here I am hoping to encourage others to give me advice as I adventure the practice, and also I would like to share some of the things I've learnt over the years.

After 24 hours of consuming no food, the body's sugar supplies are well exhausted and begins to rely on the breakdown of carbohydrates and fats. So if you only fast for one day (like the mormons) at a time, then you have chemically achieved fuck all really in terms of cleaning out your body. However when you fast for MORE than 24 hours, and the body begins to break down fats, the body begins producing a natural ketone (this is the ORIGINAL 'speed' drug; before methamphetamines were commercialised)

Ketone is remarkable in that it effects neurotransmissions in the brain which surpress the feeling of hunger; and also assisting in the creation of other chemicals that help to stablize your mood.

EDIT: I FORGET TO ADD THAT KETONES ASSIST I DETOXIFYING THE BRAIN! sorry, thats an important tidbit wanted to express

This is the reason that I have always found it easier to resist my addictions when I am fasting, then when im eating regularly; because the action of the breakdown of fat cells creates a sensation of happiness.

This is also the reason that going to the gym and doing a hard workout; or coming home from a day of labour intensive work; gives a sense of uphoria.

The bit I do not understand is:
Am I doing my brain damage?
How can I lessen the impact of toxins during a fasting period and help eliminate them?
What can you keep eating that would still allow for detox and what is it in particular about meats; dairy and wholegrains that prevents detox and causes inflammation?

Everyone has different personal limits and different reasons for fasting. Many doctors say you cannot go more than three days without food and water; which I've already proven is complete BS.

My particular reasons are for purifying; not only the body; but the heart also, removing unwanted desires; fasting is very effective at this (if your ready to change).

I'd love to hear some of your experiences

    Kind regards

I agree, fasting is amazing. Especially if you look at it from an alchemical perspective: the digestive function of the human body as a sort of 'Secret Fire'.

Not necessarily. There is a physiologic concept called 'the law of the minimum'. This concept explains that in order to do 1 unit of physiologic work, the body needs a minimum of 1 unit. For 5 units of physiologic work, 5 units minimum. etc.

Even when skipping one meal a day, the "units" of minerals, vitamins, chemical elements, enzymes, etc. which are usually burnt up during digestion of food (especially of what composes the gastric acid) are made available to produce physiologic work in other tissues. This is one reason why after fasting for a day, the body can break down fats better. There are more units available to produce work.

One example is that gastric acid is made up in part with sodium- and potassium-chloride. Sodium and potassium and chloride are also necessary electrolytes with many functional physiologic roles, especially in the blood plasma. So you could either suck them out of the blood and use them to break down a meal, or skip a meal and have them do their job elsewhere

The bit I do not understand is:
Am I doing my brain damage?
I doubt it. The nervous system is physiologically protected. Your body will start consuming organ tissue before it begins consuming nervous tissue. Which is the interesting division between Fasting and Starvation.
While Fasting, the body uses it's store of nutritional reserves.
When Starvation sets in, the body has used up all its nutritional reserves and begins consuming the actual tissues of the organs.

Therefore it can be said that the length of Fasting a person is able to achieve is related to how much nutritional reserves their body has. Eating a diverse vegetarian diet for 1 week before the fast will produce more benefits and most likely a longer fasting period than eating a diverse protein-heavy diet for 1 week, because there are more macro- and micro-nutrients made available for the fasting period.

How can I lessen the impact of toxins during a fasting period and help eliminate them?
Sleep through it haha. My last fast was 9 days, water only. The first 3 were miserable, but the last 6 were awesome. I never felt so good in my life.

Just remember, emotional responses are illusions. There's always a stillness that lies beneath them.

What can you keep eating that would still allow for detox and what is it in particular about meats; dairy and wholegrains that prevents detox and causes inflammation?
Oranges, or apples, are especially good. Also, water-heavy vegetables that are more alkaline than acidic (cucumbers over tomatoes kind of thing). There are many theories as to why meats and dairy cause inflammation, but my idea is that they are never properly digested, and the inflammation is caused by intestinal microbials having one hell of a party fermenting the undigested portions

And like I mentioned above, if you eat a vegetarian diet for a while before the fast, there isn't as much discomfort during the fast.

Many doctors say you cannot go more than three days without food and water; which I've already proven is complete BS.
I've proven this as well. Though dehydration does set in after 2 days without water, but it's symptoms are minor and usually go unnoticed on account of the discomfort fasting creates in the beginning 3 to 4 days.

The longest recorded fast I've read about was around 60 days. And that was with water-only, but also under the supervision of a medical professional who specialized in fasting.

I'd love to hear some of your experiences
The most interesting 'side-effect' to my fasting experiences has been my perception of food. I can easily skip a meal now and function completely normal, knowing that the body will take care of itself, and actually benefit from my not eating.

Everyone else, however, freaks the fuck out if they aren't eating 3, 4 or even 5 meals regularly! haha.

One final note, Herbert Shelton wrote an amazing book called 'The Science and Fine Arts of Fasting'. I highly recommend it.

This is great Info Kiorionis! Thank you.

Because I am.hoping to.extend this fast out for auite a long time, I have decided to incorporate herbal teas and broths to give my bottle the electrolytes it needs. Also because I was somewhat ill prepared (did not ease in with veggies only).

My main diet is White tea, lemon, tumeric, black pepper, rosemary and pink rock salt.

The other reason is because of the high toxicity in my blood. Cigarettes and the like have blackened me, and I didnt want my body going to.war without any weaponry.

Yes; green vegetables are usually more alkali, I was thinking of eatting a celery today for the fibre content to help flush things out.

I am also wondering whether or not fasting could help eliminate intestinal parasites? I intend to ween further and furthr into the fast; and then at say, day 15 - 20, when any parasites are weak, I was going to start eatting pine resins and other resins such as frankinsense and myrrh, in order to whip them out. (Im not exactly sure I have parasites but when studying goats for breeding I came to realise that we are most often filled with paracites but because we happily feed them everyday we never really notice, and the medical industry doesnt want to spread panic by suggesting that we all.have 15metre long worms growing inside of us. So just to be sure; pine resin. Will probably make me a bit sick but if it does the job ill be happy.

No problem. I've been practically studying fasting for 2 years now, and have fasted quite a few times. But my schedule requires me to have a fair amount of physical activity, so they're usually only 3-10 days when I catch a break. One dream of mine is to try for 40 days, the 'alchemical month', so I guess I've been preparing myself with short ones haha.

I would not recommend this approach. It's true that the parasites will be weak, if they're present, but so will you after 15 days. Most of the herbs and techniques used for parasite cleansing are fairly aggressive and require a fair bit of strength.

It would be much more beneficial if you did the parasite cleanse in the beginning of the fast, for the first 3 days or so. You'll have the physical strength, as well as all the nutrients you need to help counter-act the side effects of anthelmintic/antiparasite herbs.

An even better approach is to consult a health care professional, or have one on hand during the fast. I do this when I fast for more than 3 days.

Also consider, that after 15-20 days of no or little food, the parasites, if present, may just bail on their own naturally.

    ----------------

Something else to consider since you're planning on going more than 10 days, which Shelton's book covers pretty well, is the re-conditioning of the body after the fast. It's not something most people think about, and if after 20 days isn't approached carefully, can cause some serious problems (1-3 days doesn't really matter, but 20 days definitely will). Death being one of the more severe of them.

From my notes on the re-conditioning:

Shelton recommends at least 2-3 days of oranges (not orange juice, but the actual orange) to begin with, then simple vegetables (leafy greens mostly). This works it's way into heavy vegetables before getting into dairy and meat. Meat is not recommended for at least 1 week after stopping the fast with fruit and vegetables, unless condition is severe and digestion not picking up. If this is the case, go back to oranges (a digestive stimulant like ginger might work well too, at this point)

Sugar and sugar products (cookies, cakes, candies) should NOT be eaten for the first 4 weeks.

Alkali foods should not be mixed with acidic foods.

No oils (olive oil, coconut, etc.) for the first 2 weeks after breaking fast.

I have found it best to fast from food but not liquids. When I go 1-2 days without eating, I still drink electrolytes and lots of water. Because it is best to force out toxins through urine while fasting. Your body wants to get rid of waste, drinking good fluids helps with that. I also absorb certain minerals during a fast such as magnesium, b12, calcium, fish oil, vitamin c etc. When I get the urge to eat, sometimes I will juice a meal with my juicer. I do not fully fast, I prefer a fast from solids to give my stomach a break but still get the nutrients I need to think clearly. I have noticed that meditation is much better during juice fasts.

Good point, ArcherSage. It reminds me specifically of the methods used while fasting for alchemical rejuvenation.

A fast is undertaken, and after a while broths and teas are imbibed. Basically the liquid diet you mention. At a certain point, the alchemical substance is ingested which brings all the benefits of youth.

    The question is, why?
Art is Nature in the flask; Nature is a vial thing.

All things carry a life giving energy within it, sadly many substances are misused and are not absorbed correctly.

Kiorionis; the re-conditioning is a very importsnt aspect of fasting I agree. And yet, heavy penalties for those who ignore such warnings.

Archer sage, glad to see your a faster aswell. And I do like that approach also.

It does highly depend on your current situation as to which fast is in your best interest.

Ill remind you that somehow (I think you have to already have the Cadusius (?) the yoga snake thing happening) the are MANY ancient reports of prophets who went 40 days and 40 nights with no food and NO WATER.

Beats me how they do it; as I said i think they were already Masters before doing this as the final stab to the ego before God-hood. "What is dead may never die"

Ive decided, as I cannot allow myself to become completely incapacitated due to responsibilities, that I am taking a break every 4 days and eating only healthy fats and veggies. I am not going to count those days as fast days; so I am.going to to 40 full days with about 10 break days in between.

I must say; after not being an idiot with my body, flushing the last few days, and just having a nice meal a couple hours ago, I feel amazing. I just jumped my wife and she didnt know what hit her.

This has definitly been a great vessel for change already; and I've only just begun! Apparently there is a karate group starting in January thats only $50 for 12 months so I think I'm going to keep preparing, and then join that group as a stepping stone to a permanently healthier lifestyle.

Thank you for your input guys, This thread is already quite informative, hopefully it continues to grow. I try to water all my little threads here and there to keep them alive haha

Yes I have the caduceus, have had it for a year. The process has been dramatically slowed down for various reasons.
