Living in the land of mead I had never tried it until a few weeks ago, and I was surprised to discover that it resembles more wine than beer. I always imagined it to be more like beer in taste and substance...

Tastes like shit by the way. LOL.

    Get outta here!

You must not have had good honey mead!

I am not a big fan of alcohol, and the only honey mead I have ever tried is homebrew from my Polish neighbor, but it was fantastic! Really potent too.

Thinking back on it, I had batch of honey mead from my dad's friend years ago as well and I liked the taste of that too.

Well to be frank I am not a fan of alcohol at all, and have not had a mouthful of alcohol and swallowed since at least 2003... the mead I just tasted with my lips.

Alcohol is not a gentleman's drug.

    Maybe without the "gentle" part

What are the drugs of gentle-men, BTW?

Might be because they are so drunk they just ramble on and don't shut up. Also most "skalds" sing about being drunk and about alcohol actually, but also about love and death and the heroes of yore.

I don't disagree with your theory about this, however mead is also a manly drink in Scandinavian culture.

Actually the true drug of gentlemen is water.

Been wanting to try mead for years. I should make some of my own. I suppose you can just substitute years old water for yeast in water?
