Interesting stuff. George Stahl rings a bell but I can't remember why. I'll have to look it up. After replying (and editting) I found this older research by Ferguson:

probably a good summary of previously held ideas about Walchin.

I had assumed Schmieder was a modern researcher (wikipedia's source note on his History of Alchemy must be a republication, "2005"). It turns out he seems to be an interesting character in his own right... He was a freemason around the right time.. any connection to the GuR?

Searches on Wallich basically bring me to your posts on alchemyforums. Same with JA Starck.. other than the english wikipedia article, which is interesting but doesn't talk about the GuR, the only place I can find him mentioned is by you in these forums.

Schmieder was born in the late 18th century when the GuR were already falling apart. So when he was an adult, there were no GuR anymore. I guess some underground successor lodges existed, but I don't know if he was involved.

Sorry, who do you mean with JA Starck?

Edit: Johann Starck, the guy behind some of the books "by" Fred Waldo, right?

Yes, english wikipedia has him as Johann August von Starck. You mentioned him in this thread

I had mentioned in the "Secret Figures" thread having several manuscript versions of Physica Metaphysica et Hyperphysica ca. DOMA. Going back and looking through what I have downloaded, it turns out one of them is attributed to Starck.

I was going to email you about him instead of hijaacking a thread, but I really didn't have much else to say about him.

I did just find this though. Perhaps part of the "falling apart" you refer to?

Some of the first named members had been Beneficent Knights of the Holy City, which sprang out of the Exacte Observance of which Baron Ravon and Professor Starck were members, and which was a schism (in 1767) from the Strict Observance or Templar Rite of Baron von Hund, derived in 1743 from the Chapter of Clermont.
This is from an Anonymous "Rituals of the Fratres Lucis" which seems to be be 50% a chapter for Waite's Brotherhood of the Rosy Cross, and the half the quote is from, regarding the rituals of the Fratres Lucis.

    Hope I’m not interrupting but
I am a female alchemist (not a witch)
To me alchemy is a lot like cooking
Two people can follow the same recipe
But the results will always taste different

What causes two exact recipes to end up tasting differently?

What does it mean to be an Alchemist, to you?

    Time?
Art is Nature in the flask; Nature is a vial thing.

    Time is the path

    Intent + observence = manifestation

No two can ever be alike yet all are part of the same matrix like a crystal or a snowflake

Even trees clone their own leaves yet no two can ever be exactly the same.

To me it means to be an artist of one of the most noble order.
