Using the Imperative in Middle French Alchemical Texts

For those French-speaking members who are familiar with old French Alchemical Treatises, when giving instructions (i.e. Imperative tense), was it more common then to address the reader as second-person singular ("tu") or second-person plural ("vous")?

    Thank you.

    Hi Illen,

I'm no expert but I'd say "vous".

Anyways, what I really wanted to say to you is that your inbox is full and I've got something for you

    Hi FF,

I've seen both, but am not sure which is actually the more proper form.

Sorry about the Inbox. I just cleared up some messages.
