I tested Kambo today (i.e, method of applying the venom of some toads from the Amazon on the skin).
I did it with a friend who has a very vast experience, otherwise I would have not done it.
He gave us a talk about the possible effects, even the bad ones, as to avoid anyone getting scared if they happen:
-The heart may begin to pump a bit faster.
-There can by a feeling of having problems for breathing that looks like asthma, but it's mostly psychological and not risky.
-Fears and phobias may show up and it's usual.
-Vomiting a lot is normal.
-Diarrhea is normal (even "accidents" with it are normal).
-Some pain in the stomach is normal.
-Feeling strong emotions is normal and they can be very sad and extreme.
-Hallucinations are NOT normal (even if that's the common belief).
Thankfully he gave that talk, so I decided that I didn't like ANY of those side effects so I switched my mind to a state in which I could avoid them (nothing supernatural, I simply focused on being very relaxed, controlling the breathing, and focusing on a bright -imaginary- light).
In the long run, it ended up being a pleasant meditation, very peaceful, very relaxed and without any "bad" side effects.
I was surprised by the fact that everyone else in the group experienced the "bad" side effects (Though allegedly they are "good", since it's somehow a purge)... I simply decided to do it "my way" or in a way that was good for ME (it does not mean that MY experience is the one that others may want).
It was pleasant, though if I had experienced ANY of those side effects, I would have probably described it as extremely unpleasant (even if the others didn't find those side effects unpleasant at all and it was not their first time... most of them had done it at least 5 times previously, I was the only "virgin" of Kambo in the group).
In the long run, a nice experience, though I would not describe it as "the experience that completely changed all my views about life, the universe and the meaning of everything"... simply relaxing and pleasant and a good mediation practice. Anyway, my experience was VERY atypical even if my friend kept of increasing my dose because he wanted me to experience what was considered "normal".
I was also surprised by the power of our minds and how we can lead an experience like this one and take it to the place that we WANT (and I do not think I have done something extraordinaire or that I am some sort of super powerful mentalist.... it as easy).
Anyone else has done Kambo? How was your experience?
NOTE: one of my other reasons for doing it is that my friend is Vegan and an animal rights activists, so he respects his frogs... otherwise I would have NEVER accepted.
