The Abrahamic religious texts are filled with apparent contradictions on Gods character.
El, Yahweh , Ashtoreth, Canaanites deities that absorbed each others qualities eventually becoming God and Mary.
To the early Greeks El becomes Saturn/Kronos, Yahweh becomes Zeus who becomes King of the gods by marriage to the Queen of Heaven Ashtoreth, who is Hera to the Greeks.
The texts contradict because they are attributed to One God not a collection of earlier deities. Seeing this you can start to tell one deity from the other.

Having a one God say and do contrary things that a collection of earlier deities did, means you can have your religion appeal to all people with differing views.
Its how the trick of monotheistic worship works. You just co opt the previous pagan worship and place all the contrary qualities under one God.

My intent was to differentiate occultists and new agers from spiritual seekers... As an ocultist is someone simply against God, and the Good, which is God (remember Poimandres' Good discourse? Hermes speaks often in very similar terms to bible: example: the genesis according to Hermes; or the importance of the Son of God for Hermes). The occultist, as the new age, look for some exotic stuff with power, and it is finalized to itself. But Hermes explained very clearly how this is simply wrong, and how all those exotic and powerful stuff (and all the basis of nature like breathing) is only possible thanks to God.
The indian mythology explains this very very well: what is the difference between a hindu God and a hindu asura?

I want to be the opposit george in this post, but what would be esoteric about boiling goat in milk? Making cream of goat? :-D About the first post, milk is not the water from where the goat comes from. It is more a kind of urinous fluid: the amniotic liquid. According to me, it is out of context. But the analogy is interesting.
If we take that part (the precepts of the jews) of Exodus, and decide to interpret it hermetically (as it sounds very interesting), we can read there something interesting of course. And this is something that people like Fulcanelli or Philaletes did.
What i think is that making assumptions of the kind of Fulcanelli, and pretending that the writer of exodus meant that what you say is the real, and by that taking for granted that all the rest of the bible is the opposite of what is written, ecc i think its not correct.

Then, of course the esoteric meaning may be the opposite of the literal, but it depends on the case.

That's highly subjective. Occult essentially means "hidden". It ain't necessarily "against good". What is "good", anyway? Good for whom? Good for what? We can make sense of it in a multitude of ways.

Yes, i understand your point, i see what you are meaning on the sense of the "hidden". But we can say occultism has been connected to the search and usage of "powers"; this by being disconnected from the search of the true essence of God. So esoterism is the search of this essence by hidden means. Like, in jewism kabbalah is the esoteric part, muslims have sufism and alchemy, etc. What do you think?

As for the good, Good we should intend in the way Hermes did, as we are all young hermetists.
